Alert viewers will notice that the Star Members Club Room has now been repainted, reupholstered and renamed as the Subscribers Lounge. Subbers and Star Members alike are now welcome there.

On the back wall of the Lounge you'll find a message board, on which will be pinned notice of main-site updates, along with the locations where they can be found. Naturally, members of the Lounge found passing these addresses on to non-members will be subject to immediate and permanent removal of all Lounge privileges, and have their IP address blocked from the WoS forum entirely.

The first notice concerns the debut of the WoS Archive Retro Gamer section, which opens with the presentation of the Art Of C&VG feature. Brimming with beautiful high-resolution artwork (far bigger than it was printed in the magazine), you'd be advised to give all 21MB of this rather lovely page a few moments to download, depending on your connection speed, before attempting to view it.

Another archive addition today, with the inclusion of "Gender Benders", a feature from Total PC Gaming investigating why everyone's definitions of hardcore and casual gamers are the wrong way round, and which went on to inspire the regular column "Why I Hate PC Gamers".

Sadly it doesn't include the splendid artwork the mag commissioned for the feature, but there are more screenshots.

Today: the previously-unpublished book commission "The PFB Factor", an entirely new take on the same theme as previous WoS feature "The PGB Factor". I think it's a smashing little piece - it's fun and zippy, and since it was for a proper grown-up book it's full of "clever" little writerly tricks to make it more enjoyable to read. WoS readers will have heard the sentiments in it before, but it's still worth a look, I think.

All-new content! It's essentially some pictures of squirrels. But they're pretty cool pictures.

Added: "In The Forest, We Are Hiding", an observational music essay about The Arcade Fire awkwardly spliced with restrained ideological polemic about Zapatista rebels. Zoiks!
