Hard to believe it's been 7 years already since Stu kickstarted the little trend, cranking out two volumes, and inspiring a couple of others to bung out similar compilations. It's just a bit of a shame that nearly all links to them are now 404ed to the gills. The download links on both Big Songs pages are invalid, and Mark X's links to his "Gone In 48 Seconds" and "99 Tracks" sets have long since keeled over, damn Rapidshare. Only dng's compilation - the first non-Stu volume to come out - still remains. No doubt I've got all of them backed up onto a DVD somewhere, but it's going to take me a bloody age to rifle through all my discs for them. I swear Stu also brought out a third compilation at some point, mentioned only on these very forums, and in the form of a "deluxe edition" or some such gubbins, but the search function on here can't even find it. I recall Stu resorted to doing future similar projects through Spotify, but I never bothered to join it, and as the current topic suggests, that service is going just a bit tits up isn't it? |

Weird, I checked the downloads a couple of weeks ago and they were fine. Will have another look. I've been meaning to make Big Songs Redux for about two years - the best of Vols 1 and 2 with a bunch of new tracks too - but I haven't quite got round to stripping it down from 140 or so tracks and making it short enough yet. I put the new-version logo on WoSland as a sort of reminder to myself. |

Just checked the links again to make sure it wasn't just some arbitrary hiccup, and yup, no musical goodness for me. Also, turns out my memory banks were being a bit of a mong, and it wasn't Stu who brought out a semi-obscure compilation in later years. That would be TGH, and the word I was thinking of was not "Deluxe", but "Redux". On the plus side, the link's still marvellous after all these years (and thus giving me more reason to prefer MegaUpload over the rest of the competition). |

Perhaps I should bump this thread to point out that, yes, the links to Stu's compilations are indeed still broken. It's a shame nobody thought to mirror them elsewhere over the years. Maybe I can suggest MegaUplooooohhh wait. |
