The forums? They're empty. Not for lack of effort from Olin, who accounts for around 30% of posts himself. I did pop in there today (from a non-banned address) and pose a few polite and reasonable questions across several threads, but they lasted just under three minutes before being deleted and the account banned.

You're clearly a hypocrite, or something. Determined enough to shell out $5 US to post on Metafilter as well. The allegations of selling those Speccy CD's are pretty serious but the only sources for the story I could find from googling about were on the chair thread itself and flat top scotch. I couldn't find the newsgroup he was talking about. Still it's a US site so he's probably safe from defamation. As for the beanbag thing I believe Stuart stated up front that he got it for free (letting everyone know immediately about possible bias) but more importantly he didn't copy/paste the piece. Reviewing can be difficult, especially when you are getting freebies but copy/pasting from a media release is the height of laziness. Unfortunately it's on the rise in all areas of journalism as time poor and understaffed journo's scramble to get enough copy in to make a decent crust. Years ago (pre internet) an Aussie journo got done for plagerism because someone did the logical thing and did a word count of all his articles for a month and worked out that in between all his typing he wouldn't have enough time to sleep let alone review the products he was recieving. It's so easy to google and compare I wonder how some people think they can get away with it.

It's full of insults about Stuart, and, apparently, it's been waging a 'copyright infringement' campaign against WoSBlog. On the account suspension, it states; "Guys, this wouldn�t have happened without your continued support, and we need to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. Special mention to the good people at Benchmark Reviews." That Just Host removed the site without even contacting Stuart is pretty shocking, given that it's claiming to have done so on the basis of a single complaint. Most ISPs would have provided a takedown warning at the very least.

Under the DMCA, they are required to take the site down without notice, whether the complaint has any merit or not. That does leave them scope to take down only the offending page, but very few hosts are that competent.
