Unexciting J Nash news inside, chums!

Whoosh. Fwish. (Pop-op-op-p.) Fizz. Whoomph. Erk.

Hello! I'm J Nash and, to celebrate history's most inept bombing, I appear to have set myself on fire in the previous sentence. But never mind that now -- I've also just opened

http://orsomething.co.uk/

where you can read things that are by me, some previously unseen, some practically unseen because everyone who read them originally is now dead, all reliably unimpressive. The idea is to post an item every weekday and, with very nearly a week gone so far, I've ruggedly held to the gruelling schedule.

(Hurrah. It certainly sounds like a House of Nash for the 90s. I have just been punched by J Nash. I shall cherish the fiery bruise for always. -- Reader's voice.)

That Driver 3 page is epic. I remember playing it after finding a copy for a fiver and I think my reaction was "It's a really good game when it's not being hideously broken and dimwitted and horrible, which is all the time."

Great stuff, and the big yellow-y-beige strap line that seems to appear on all the pages covering the text about two inches below the masthead just adds to the overall effect, I feel.

This is just me, isn't it?

Soss:
I haven't planned any more cartoon bits, but WHO KNOWS? So probably not. (Then again, "planning" sometimes runs as far as thinking what to post tomorrow.) (But probably not.) (As it happens, they asked me to write the next column too, on W Lantz, because the usual author was still dead or something. But I don't know anything about W Lantz except he did W Woodpecker, which I've never seen, and took in T Avery for a largely ill-fitting team-up after Tex left MGM, so declined.)

Rev:
Stay tuned for when I buy Driver 4 in 2012 or something. NB: do not stay tuned for this. (Phew. -- J Nash's top showbiz chums.)

Brig:
FUME. Which browser are you using? I tried a few and nothing went wrong in the manner you describe, which if I read aright is that the top few lines of text are catastrophically hidden rather than just with a clumsily over-extended background. (Opera looked a bit wonky, but Opera's always a bit wonky.) If you want to try flicking wearily through some possible fixes, e-mail me at the Or something address.

It's refusing to load via my O2 broadband connection, but works fine on my mobile. So as long as you don't use any flash I'll be ok. That last sentence may be a little redundant.

Exciting news: it wasn't just Brig who saw the copyright ribbon floating in the wrong place, for I too experienced it. When using IE7. At work.

I am also on O2, and the site won't load for me either. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading, apparently.

"Wah".

Flapping ribbon prob:
Can someone send me a pic of this? I think I've fixed this now. You may have to clear your browser cache so the v1.1 stylesheet is used.

Non-loading prob:
This ties in with Mystery Citizen X's crash we've been examining by e-mail and sounds like a repeat of some trigger-happy mod_security-related thing that in a previous episode blocked anyone trying to read T Weekly who used a browser with the word "Linux" in the user-agent. (Except in reporting this new ISP-hating version I see the browser one was never fixed, because it's also happening with Or something. Hn.) I've alerted our host support bod.

NON-LOADING PROB UPDATE:
Okay, try it now (whether you're using a Linux browser or a blocked ISP) and let me know what happens.

Thanks Peter P, all fine now. And spookily it was IE7 at work also (although it was fine on IE7 at home but that's probably because you cheated and changed it), not that I'd read this sort of thing during work time if my employers are reading of course!

Jolly good stuff. That I dozed off during the Driv3r extravaganza was entirely due to continent-fleeing stylishness.

It's still not working on my O2/Be broadband connection. Although I've found a workaround by using http://www.the-cloak.com/

Grrr. Our host's tried one fix (which almost certainly looks like it's for the Linux browser prob only). Brilliantly, mod_security won't let me look at the mod_security logs for security purposes so I can't tell which idiot trigger-happy rule is responsible, but the fact you can get through via a proxy is a dead giveaway it's some badly thought-out IP block. I rattle a lolly stick between our support bod's pearly chops.

UPDATE. But wait! Reading around, it's possibly a stupid DNS thing with O2. The other reported non-working ISP, ADSL24, is also mentioned as tripping up in a similar way. I'll dash off some PMs with suggested tests to see if we can pin the blame, and then have someone suitably killed.

Lots of valuable highly technical info from pretty testers here and RP Shotgun (thanks -- I've sent the collated facts to Support Bob and will shortly be emptying your bank accounts), but: can people who've previously seen the site still do so? Because about a quarter of an hour ago without my changing anything at all, both O something and T Weekly vanished for me too and I'm not on the same ISP as anyone who's reported a prob. SHOCK ENDING.
