What is this rather splendid-looking version? Anyone? Bueller?

Not of Jet Set Willy, no.

Wasn't there an Amiga or ST port?

Kinda looks pc-ish type graphics.

The Amiga version is Jet Set Willy 2, not the original JSW, and looks nothing like that. (For one thing, it's a scrolling game with no room names.)

NO THANKS TO ANY OF YOU, I've managed to establish that it's a mobile phone version, and found a copy of it. So the new question is this:

Why don't there seem to be any decent mobile-phone emulators for playing Java mobile games? You wouldn't think it'd be hard to knock up something that would play .JAR files.

I would say that you would be able to play them with an emulator included in Sun's JDK (or a derivation of such, customised by the cellphone manufactor for the specific hardware), as that's how they would have been tested. Observe.

To answer your question: Nobody cares.

There is a good mobile phone game emulator for the PSP which might be the business.

Ooh, interesting. Will have a look, if I can remember how my PSP works.

Waiting for the punchline

I had this for the first Motorola flip phone I had about five/six years ago. Didn't like it tbh, but then again I didn't really have a lot of time for the original. Pretty accurate version as far as I can remember though.

Edited to say I'm pretty certain the phone was a V620.

I've managed to track down a prog to get a version of it running, but it's in portrait mode and effectively unplayable, because you can't see enough of where you're going. Now I need to find the version in that screenshot map.

That's how I had to play it full stop. MM was really well scaled and featured a minimal amount of scrolling, but JSW was designed to be pretty, rather than playable.

I dunno if it's much help but it's by Carl Woffenden. He's a lovely chap so might be worth dropping him a line to see if he can drop you a copy or a PC playable build?

http://www.bigredswitch.co.uk/contact.html - hopefully that's still active, it was around a year ago when I dropped him a line.

You're a star - Mr Woffenden is indeed a lovely fellow, and has sent over a PC-playable file. It works fine and is dreamy. I wonder if I could negotiate a deal to give it away to WoS subbers?

I'm more interested to know if this has the same bugs as the original, the reoccurring death a word. My version did. An it was a V525 for definite.
