There may very well be another special gift to follow later in the day...

"More than three decades have passed since Never Mind The Bollocks was released by the Sex Pistols to mark the occasion of my birthday in 1977.
Anything that starts with a sentence like that is gonna be worth a read.

Happy birthday, Man. *Marlon raises imaginary glass*

Was in fact Rasputin's brother

It's also my brother's birthday today. How exciting. I'm not sure who for though. Many happy returns, anyway. :)

Yeah, frightening how long ago all of this was - this was first brought home to me when my missus took us to a Suede gig, probably a decade back at least. For all their faults, their audience warmup was to play 'Bollocks' in its entirety over the PA before the gig.

Man, those words had been seared into my brain - and as I looked around, I realised I had originally memorised them before the rest of the audience had been born. Boy, does that make you feel old.

Edit: oh, yeah: Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.

No discussion of cover versions can be complete without a mention of Hayseed Dixie (who are genuinely excellent, and not just in a knowing ironic naughties way; easily one of the best, and most fun, live acts I've ever seen).

Hey, happy birthday man. :)

(You're a Scorpio, which figures, in a good way incidentally. I am a Taurus, your precise opposite in astrological terms... :D )

So very tired

Many happy returns, The Stu! But however are the people at the bakery going to fit all 78 candles on your birthday muffin?

Ah yes - that one was just edged out by Queen Of Japan. I like their version of Ace Of Spades too. Doing that song Deliverance-style really works.

Happy birthday Stu.

Nothing from my favourite Sex Pistols record Los Exitos de Sex Pistols by a bunch of Spanish session musicians dubbed "Los Punkrockers" who got to listen to the album once then record it for sale (as the original was banned in Spain).

Their version of "Pretty Vacant" is amazing.
