The South; Monthly Newsletter

September Edition

Editor: Lordieth

It's Autumn in The South and everyone's putting on their woolly jackets. Our chicken is served as hot as our tea, and we're spending a fortune in mugs because it's pretty hard to grip a hot mug of tea while wearing a pair of fluffy mittens.

Delegate Lordieth; 3rd time lucky?

As reported by Mahaj, the results were as follows;

Quote:

THE VOTES ARE IN

People of The South have voted for the delegate, and there voting is as follows:

Lordieth: 7
Burton Industries: 6
Turttallia: 3

Lordieth is the winner!

As you can see, 16 votes were cast in this election, a record! For those interested, those that voted were as followed (arranged alphabetically, their vote hidden)

7185514
Astrolinium
Austrenium
Bozonz
Burton Industries
Cosgravia
Flobos
Haalstad
Hamsterina
Hileville
Hossaim
Lordieth
Mahaj
Miritrion
Turttallia
Yemaja

For those interested, the voting was initially in favor of Burton Industries, then swung over to Lordieth and stayed that way. Congratulations to all candidates!

Lordieth had this to say;

Quote:

I was genuinly expecting, and pre-prepared to congratulate Burton as our next elected Delegate. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I think both Burton and Turttallia ran great campaigns, and both of you are a good bet as the next future Delegate.

This will be my last consecutive term. I think six months is long enough, and after that it's right that The South enters a new chapter with a new Delegate.

I know I didn't campaign this election, but you should expect more of the same from me, as well as a more active presence in The Diet. I really want us to break the '100 nations' mark by the time my term ends. I hope we can accomplish that together.

The IRC Chatlog of the final discussion before voting began can be found on our forum, here;

One vice is never enough

The legislative body in The South, The Diet, is currently debating the idea of an appointed vice delegate. Like all good ideas, more than one Southern Citizen has submitted a proposal on the matter.

- [proposal] The Position of Vice-Delegate, Written by Cosgravia
- [proposal] Appointment of Vice Delegate, Written by Lordieth

Neither proposal has yet been put to vote, so it should be interesting to see what happens next. Either both will be put to vote and we hope that only one gains a majority vote, or the Head of The Diet will have to decide which one has the largest overall level of Southern support. It would be quite a predicament if both proposals passed, and quite a headache, too!

Taking stock of what we have

A new game has started in the south, the Southern Predictions Exchange (SPX), hosted and ran by Burton Industries. In his own words;

Quote:

Basically, this is an idea that I stole from inspired by something Popular Science magazine did a couple years ago. Its basically a stock exchange for predictions, and if it comes true, you are awarded $100 per share that you hold. If not, you've lost whatever you invested in it. You can buy and sell freely with other players, so the market price will roughly reflect the odds that the event will happen. For example, if someone's selling a stock for $20 and you think the event is going to happen, it'd make a lot of sense to buy the stock. As another example, if you hold a stock and think the event has a very low chance of happening, it'd make sense to sell. Players will start with $5000 and will purchase their initial stocks through initial public offerings (IPO's) that I will hold shortly. 50 shares of each stock will be released. 7, could I get a forum section for this or at least a subforum in Cloud 9? Also, everyone, PM me ideas for new predictions that would make good stocks. Eventually, I will be adding new stocks in such areas as entertainment, economics, sports, technology, NationStates, politics, etc.

The first set of IPO's;

Quote:

US Baseball: A National League team wins the 2011 World Series. (NLWS)
US Baseball: An American League team wins the 2011 World Series (ALWS)
US Politics: Rick Perry wins the GOP nomination. (PRRY)
US Politics: Mitt Romney wins the GOP nomination. (RMNY)
US Politics: Herman Cain wins the GOP nomination. (CAIN)
Video Games: Modern Warfare 3 sells over 6.5 million copies on its first day of sales (CDMW)
Commodities: Gold price hits $2000/oz before or on May 1, 2012.(GOLD)
Commodities: Oil price (WTI) hits $110/barrel before or on May 1, 2012.(OIL)

The IPO's bids have been checked and distributed thusly;

Quote:

50xNLWS @ $28 to Burton Industries
50xALWS @ $26 to Burton Industries
50xPRRY @ $26 to Burton Industries
50xRMNY @ $38 to Lordieth
38xCAIN @ $26 to Burton Industries
12xCAIN @ $25 to Hiletopia
50xCDMW @ $41 to Hiletopia
50xGOLD @ $36 to Hiletopia
50xOIL @ $38 to Lordieth

Trading has now begun! A big thanks again to Burton Industries for hosting this game on our forum.
