England's Regional Update
28th April 2007
Convention or Codification?
Region - Forum - Wiki
Current Population: 202
Current Delegate (days): West-Side (100)
Endorsements (%possible): 63 (61.76%)

Government
- Deputy Delegate - Glerica
- Foreign Minister - Ithania
- Recruitment Minister - Sanctaphrax
- Defence & Intelligence Minister - Youngtung

Region & Forum

- In late March the positions of Deputy Delegate and Minister of Defence & Intelligence became vacant. Congratulations go to our new Ministers Glerica and Youngtung; their constant diligence and dedication prove that they’re deserving of the new positions!

- After extensive debate with the Founders of the Regional Forum a one week poll was held to decide whether future Delegates should be awarded admin powers for the duration of their tenure. A resounding 93% majority clearly showed the communities opinion on this.
Results of the Poll

For – 14
Against – 1
Abstain – 2
Total – 17

Constitutional Reform and a New Era

- Delegate Disposablepuppetland has been conscientiously drafting the Members’ Rights in conjunction with the forum community in order to enshrine fundamental liberties. This successful codification seems to have sparked enthusiasm for further constitutional reform while others see extra documents as restrictive and overly complex.

- Glerica and Ithania have been working on codifying The Electoral Procedure with a great deal of help from the community. Compromises have been made on several points of contention but there are still issues which need resolving over campaign regulations.

- A debate on Cabinet accountability and Separation of the Powers is in progress with both new and old members offering their perspectives on issues or their perceived solutions to the situation.

Community and Entertainment

- The region has been celebrating the return of longstanding and missed members of its community. Hirota, Britain’s Empire, and Broab are exceptional and intelligent individuals that left a huge impact on England’s history. With their return it is certain that life in England will get far better and our collective IQ will raise a few points!

- The Glerican Games reached their eventful conclusion with carchery! There were allegations of fowl play with laxatives, springs, and implanted metal plates; claims of racist remarks against dolphin noses (until they got some fish and gold medals), and sexual insecurity but the games are considered a resounding success! Medal winning athletes were greeted with cheers while losers had their citizenship revoked.

Medal Results

Third Place: Leetuania with 10 points.

Second Place: Sea Dolphin Lovers with 11 points

First Place: Disposablepuppetland with 12 points

- In other news The Glerican Herald has gone international! The newspaper is considered the best in England (not just because it’s the only one) and aims to bring the world “impartial stories concerning the region”… and make a few billion fronds in the process.

- Regional spam output has massively increased with the “Have you ever…” thread taking kinky turns and the Word Association game gaining over 6000 posts. The community is looking forward to celebrating the 50,000 posts mark.

Awards
Glerica had his Merit Award upgraded to a lovely Silver for his constant work in the region and unique ability to bring humour to every situation.
Disposablepuppetland accepted a Bronze Merit Award for his service as Delegate and for creating the Merit Award in the first place. His resistance proved futile against begging, pleading, and puppy dog eyes.
His Majesty was awarded the Order of Britain in recognition of his devotion to the region of England as Delegate from November 2003 to August 2006, as well as his numerous other contributions.
Leetuania was awarded the Order of England for consistent efforts to keep a positive atmosphere, his counselling as an agony-uncle, his knowledge of naked BBQs, service in the Ministries and indispensable advice on red wine.

Lazarus Service Star

England gladly came to the aid of the rightful Delegate of Lazarus in late April as part of an international operation. To mark the energy military service brought to the region MoDI Youngtung has awarded the Lazarus Service Star to Atraxes, New Drakensberg Range, Xenigon, Govindia, Idiocracy, Glerica, Britain's Empire, Fuzzatude, Brackania, and Ithania.

Youngtung

*talking to everyone else* You see, they actually found out that they were siblings separated at birth due to the fact that their father was an evil Sith lord. Of course their mother was a loyalist and was protected by the Jedi. BE, being the boy, was taken to the dust ball known as Canada where he farmed maple syrup out of the condensers. Ithy was adopted and whisked off to a beautiful area where she grew up with everything she could ever want...

I've never seen a Catholic Mass have a topic though. Oh, I've seen thousands of intentions, feasts, memorials, and solemnities, but never a topic. Wierd. Now, I'm trying to decide if that's just a quirk of British English or if that's what the Church gets when there's a discontinuity of a couple hundred years.

The Junior Glerican Games begin! Registration has begun for the most popular sports event of the year, but this time... its for kids! Taking on from the success of the Glerican Games earlier this year, the Glerican Sports Association have announced to run a shorter version of the game for 9-15 year olds.

The best part is that you don't need to be a nation of England to take part!

England's Regional Update
17 Feb. 2008
- RegionForum

Current Population: 131
Founder: Tyrr
Current Delegate (Days Elected): ASXTC (71)

Government
Delegate - ASXTC
Minister of Recruitment - United Idiocracy
Minister of Defence and Int - Allandaros
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Zapatisa

Recent Happenings

At the beginning of March the government of England banned Nivogal from our forum after five separate complaints about him from different forum members.
Forum admin Leetuania made the following statement to the region:
Quote:

After several complaints about the conduct of Nivogal, the cabinet and admins of England have reached the conclusion that his continued presence on the England forum will lead to the departure of other members and the eventual decline of the forum. We do not consider this situation to be acceptable and so have taken the decision to ban Nivogal from the England forum.

The complaints were due to repeated harassment via PM, IM, and other online communications. This harassment had caused several members to consider leaving England.
The ban is not in any way a comment on Nivogal's trustworthiness or the work he has performed in England. The decision is based on what we believe is best for our community as a whole, both now and in the future.

Shortly after the ban was announced, a person named 'Casi Delasy' arrived in England, claiming to be Nivogal's lawyer. Initially he made a polite request for evidence against Nivogal and requested a trial. The government stated their position that the offences were not in-game and so an in-game trial is not appropriate.
After failing to raise any support from the region's members, Casi resorted to insults and wild accusations. He was eventually banned for posting multiple offensive topics in the ministerial offices.

Later in March our delegate Ithania announced she was leaving NS altogether. We wished her well and hope she will come back some day.

A delegate election was soon called and contested by Asxtc and Zapatisa. After much campaigning Asxtc was declared the winner.

He soon arranged cabinet elections and, after a lengthy process, the following cabinet were elected:

Minister of Recruitment - United Idiocracy
Minister of Defence and Int - Allandaros
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Othimskad

Unfortunately only a few weeks after the election Othimskad was forced to resign due to RL constraints. Zapatisa replaced her as Foreign Minister.

In other news, long-time England members Safalra and Allandaros returned to the forum, and new members Hattix and New Timland arrived.

In our epic 'Banana Rush' RP reached the end of the first chapter, with Rhanukhan detailing England's fight-back against an invasion of alien monkeys.

At the beginning of May we received a very disturbing post on the forum suggesting something terrible may have happened with Ithania in RL. Fortunately this turned out to be wrong and Ithy posted on the forum three days later, much to our relief!

Quotes

Glerica

I made sure I voted because it's the first election I could actually vote for. Did it postal style. That doesn't mean I killed everyone, it means I used the postal vote system.

Honest.

Disposablepuppetland

Generally geeked around.
- Read Slashdot and xkcd.
- Discussed the forthcoming GTA release with colleagues, and reminisced about just how fabulous Vice City was.
- An hour of VCPR quotes.
- Had two hour lunch at the pub.
- Discussed the possibility of using SQL terminology in an arousing manner.
- Female colleague approved of our suggestions for late night SQL pillow talk, and lamented the lack of database design in modern relationships.
- Spent the remainder of the day inventing bad pun titles for SQL books. "Putting the Relationship Back Into RDBMS", "Suzy Does SQL (18+)"
- Added 7 hours 'Misc. admin' to my timesheet.

New hairdo! (of course, I'm supposed to not tell you all and you're all supposed to not notice and I'm supposed to get really upset that nobody noticed - that's usually how these situations work;) )

If I reply "Errr... yeah.... good" then carry on watching the football, will you pout and stamp your foot?

Pah! Mother was right about you! *storms off to the bathroom to weep inconsolably*
