PORTELANIA CITY, Portelania (PBC News) - At least 10 rebels and troops have been killed in a renewed surge in violence in Portelania follwing the election of President Edgard Portela, Portelanian government officials said on Friday.

Gunmen, said to support former President Augusto Portela-Subiru, killed nine Portelanian troops in the eastern Alberta province, a provincial government official said on Friday, in one of the bloodiest attacks against Portelanian forces.

The soldiers were killed while on a night patrol in the Jurado area of the province, the home area of former President Portela-Subiru.

"Two of those killed were officers and the other seven were soldiers," said Ismael Rivera, spokesman for the provincial governor. "The car they were traveling and their weapons have gone missing, too."

Rivera said it was not clear who was behind the attack but a rebel spokesman said their fighters were responsible.

"Our Freedom Fighters killed the soldiers in an ambush," rebel spokesman Jose Jose said by telephone from an undisclosed location.

Alberta was a bastion of the eastern Portelanian rebels until they were driven from power by the government of President Jose Zarkozy-Portela, Portela-Subiru's predecessor.

[OOC:Hopefully this will serve as a good background for an rp war I want to start in Portelania.]

Why do you need a RP for this? Just tune in to any news report on the situation in Iraq. Plenty of rebels, soldiers and cars going missing. :)
