Scandal Rocks World’s Fair!

World’s Fair Chairman The Wachovia Coalition being arrested by Poe

Newer York, The East Pacific: Today is a sad day for world unity, as it was revealed that the last pure vestige in Nationstates has fallen to corruption and graft. The WFC, the World’s Fair Committee, has been indicted in a brides-for-votes scandal, where committee members accepted money and gifts in exchange for holding the world’s fair in The East Pacific.

It was through the investigative journalism of The Weakly Midnight Star that uncovered the plot. Apparently, bribing is a common practice, and some committee members were so bold as to place their votes for sale on E-bay. Committee member Berphamore sold-out his vote to Nasicouria for forty pieces of silver.

However, the World’s Fair host region The East Pacific said that the practice is so entrenched that the only way they had a shot of winning their bid was to bribe like anyone else. TEP delegate Loop explains, “If you were taking a test on a curve, and you knew that it was easy to cheat, and everyone else cheated, would you cheat too?” Indeed, it appears that everyone has cheated. The Pacific spent $340,000, the Heartland spent $530,000, and the East Pacific spent an astonishing $2.4 million in bribes. The West Pacific was planning to spend even more, but the appropriation bill was killed by a rider that would have given $30 million to the perverted arts. I've said it before and I'll say it again: democracy simply doesn't work.

In the wake of the scandal, the world court agreed to sentence all of those who accepted bribes to a “lifetime of terror on Monster Island.” Fortunately for the convicted, however, it is only a name (it’s actually a peninsula). The bribers, on the other hand, will be allowed to keep their fair, as the booths are already under construction, and the world desperately needs the unity and culture that a fair would bring.

So, I hereby invite all people from all over the world to come to The East Pacific and partake in the Nationstates World’s Fair. Have some famous Pacific Cheese, visit the local Nekooters, and marvel at the West Pacific’s giant pineapple. This year’s theme is perhaps the most pertinent theme of any world’s fair, “Community Brings Us Together.” Let us, as a world, build that community here, so that something good can once again grow from this defiled soil.

Wow, I guess I'm more desperate than I know. ;)

WC, please have your foreign minister be on the lookout for a delivery with my regards. It will consist of two containers...one containing a hefty sum of Liargian currency, which can be converted and used in preparing your defense team. The other, well just say Melissaland waited to long to act......

Best of luck and if we can be of further assistance, please call on me.

Sincerely,

James II, First Governor of Liarg
