Someone posed a Question to me recently, Which was "if you found a Good (Cell/mobile)phone, no Acess codes or anything set on it, and you make every attempt to call the person, and contact the person who owns the phone, asking around the shops where you found it, things like that. They don't answer any Calls to home or anything like that, And nobody in the Cafes and such own the phone. Do you keep it?" I was in this situation Just recently myself, and I did ask everyone in every Shop on Oxford streed, Balmoral, and I called Every number in the phone for THREE DAYS (There was four Numbers in the phone, which was thier dad, Thier home, the phone that I found's number, and The Voicemail number.) The home number was disconnected, and the Number labeled Dad just had the "This call could not go ahead, please check the number and try again" recording. I still tried to call over 40 times in those three days. In the end, I gave up and kept the phone, and now I have a lovely new Nokia 3120. But other people, when put in that situation, what would you do? |

It seems that the mobile service provider could look up the number or check out the chip and determine who the phone belongs to unless it's a pay-as-you-go phone. |

Well, The one I found was a Pay-as-you-go (Or Pre-paid) Phone, but I suppose it doesn't really specify in the question.......Hmm......good point, but Will it effect the result? From now on, try providing two answers.....If the phone was prepaid, and if the phone was On a Plan(eg, getting the bill every month.) |

If it happened to me...I would hand it into the police and let them worry about it...If no one claims it within 90 days then you can go back and claim it with no feelings of guilt attached... |

There's really no choice. The phone would not belong to me; therefore I would not use it. I would give it to the authorities and hope the ower came forth to claim it |

Dialogue is a good thing in these issues I think, which is why my answers would probably start with a question. ![]() In either case, it seems the name would be registered somewhere and the company would be happy to their customer back into paying mode quickly. |

Well, the way I see it, the bozo who lost their phone wasn't really smart enough to think "gee, I'd better make sure I have my means of contacting my family." Especially if the phone was really cool. On the other hand, the phone is not mine. Typically, I'd go with the whole giving it to the authorities thing and not check back after 90 days, but that's for the little things and sheer laziness on my part. If you did at least make an effort for an extended amount of time to try and give the phone back, there's no harm done by getting a new phone provided you get your own service. It does make things easier on you because of the stupidity of others (which I'm not objecting to in the matter of a phone and cases where it's not like someone's life is at stake.) I would say keep the phone if you made an effort. If you don't like that route, then give it to the authorities and write down the day to go back for it!!!! |
