Hey guys! Were we talking hockey earlier? **grabs a platter of chips and dip and flumps down in a big comfy chair** I see a former Avalanche, Stephane Yelle, scored for Calgary. W00t to that! Personally, I think the Sharks are going to take the Cup, and if the Avs get their butts kicked, then I hope the Red Wings go down ,too. Sick logic, ain't it? Hey, DD, great place, great chairs! And I agree, wouldn't be hockey without Canadian teams in the playoffs. It's just weird to see southern cities like San Jose and Dallas field teams. I still can't get over the North Stars moving. |

As long as the Wings get kicked out of the playoffs, I'll be happy. I'd like to see Philly go too. It would be cool if a Canadian team won the cup. |

LOL I haven't followed hockey since I was in high school. I lived just outside of Boston and the Bruins were my team. That was back in the days of Bobbie Orr, Phil Espisto, Johnnie Busick, and Derek Sanderson. What a team that was and yet they only won one Stanely Cup. There was some excitement last year(?) when the Devils won the cup around my area where I live now. |

That must have been quite a roster. No such thing as super stars in the NHL anymore. Lots of trading too. And expected strike next year. What happened to the Devils...I guess Brodeur just can't play goalie and goal scorer at the same time. |

There are some young players like Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Nash, and Iginla that could be superstars. It's just harder now that milestones are more difficult to reach. Who can get excited about someone scoring 40 goals when a few years ago people could get 60 or 70 fairly easily? |

I beg to differ! Well, not anymore true, but up till a year ago, my team had one of the best superstars ever I'm talking about the great Patrick Roy, winningest goalie in the history of the game. Go Avs! |

Prime example. Temu Selanne. He scores 76? pretty sure it was 76 goal in his ROOKIE year. Thats right his rookie year. Now the poor guy has slid back to the back bench, never to be heard from again, including his days with San Jose. This is true, about Nash, Iggy, Kovalchuk, add St. Louis, Lecalvelier(I know, sp?) even Heatly. But rest assured it will be many a years we see another 120 point season for these boys. A nice quote from Trevor Kidd (goalie) commenting on the league stratagies to enourage more goals, "if they want more goals scored, why don't the just take away our helment". |

do you think if they went to a bigger ice surface, it will increase scoring? my reasoning is that the players are bigger and stronger, and are continuously weight training today (comparatively), so they need a bigger surface to play with. |

Yeah, Selanne had 76 his rookie season. Then the Jets traded him away for almost nothing a couple of years later. I'm a Coyotes fan so I'm a bit bitter about that even though they weren't here when it happened. He never was quite as good after that, though to be fair he was quite good with the Ducks before slowing down in San Jose. |

It probably would. But then the fans would be farther from the action and the league would lose revenue since a few rows of expensive seats would be taken away (there would be more seats on the glass, but overall they would lose money). I'd rather see the size of the goalie equipment decreased. Eliminating the red line could open up play a bit since passes could be longer, but that's a pretty drastic change. It's an interesting thought though. |

*good point* probably means that we would get yet another round of massive arena building again, with the standard amount of begging for government funds |
