poor, poor soul LOTR was the greatest trilogy of my lifetime and I personally am overjoyed that they won every award they were nominated for. I've read the books two times over and absolutly loved the films. Thank you academy, Thank you. |

I wanted Johnny Depp to win... And the Academy has lost all respect in my eyes for not having Pirates of the Carribbean in the Best Pic category. |

Let's face it, ROTK won as a trilogy, not as an individual movie. And, when you consider the scope, it was as ambitious and as moving as anything that has come in the cinema for years. |

*Kloister nods his head vigorously in agreeement* Jonny Depp should have won hands down for his portrayal of Captain jack Sparrow. I have watched Pirates of the Caribbean 4 times now and it is just a superb film. At least he was nominated though. |

Charlize Theron thoroughly deserved her Oscar! She's the most beautiful thing, and is becoming, quickly, as good an actress as Meryl Streep---and I'm glad she mentioned her home country of South Africa too!

Of the three, ROTK was the most jumbled. Personally, I thought Fellowship was the best done, though the Frodo-Sam-Gollum section of Two Towers was among the best I've seen in movies. I really believe ROTK won best picture because of the whole epic sweep of the trilogy, not on its merits alone. |

the first two LOTR didn't win the best picture oscar, so i concur with the awarding the trilogy idea. I didn't see the "Pirates" until I was on a plane. YES!!! THE americans know that Canada is a seperate nation!!! |

Return of the King was undescribible. I saw it and a friend asked how it was, I answered "you know when a movie it really hyped up to be so great and so awsome...well it was even better". The ending was a bit long winded, but I'll take that over matrix 3 "uh like, we want peace". THE END |

I have no idea for what reason the Candadians won, but marvenu has a good point ![]() LotR was a great trilogy, but I would have liked RotK better if it had a different focus: more "Frodo and Sam in Mordor", less "And they lived happily ever after". It should have ended either when Frodo and Sam were sitting on the volcano, or after Aragorn was crowned king. -Tsrill |

I disagree, Tsrill. It should have ended with the scouring of the Shire, the last battle of the War of the Ring. Then Frodo could go to Eldamar and everyone live happily ever after. As a purist Tolkien fan, I found that I had to watch each of the films twice. Once to scream at the changes Jackson made (Oh, the Aragorn "dying" and the utter perversion of the Faramir character in the Two Towers still makes me cringe), and a second time just to enjoy it as a movie unto itself. |

For purist Tolkien films, that would indeed be the best ending. However, especially in the movie (but also in the book in my opinion), it is an uninteresting addendum. For the less-big Tolkien fans and for those who haven't read the Books, it makes no sense at all. You have just had 3 hours of spectacle and that's enough. Books and movies are different media. In the fight prior to Aragorn "dying", Legolas gave us an interesting lesson in "how to mount a horse", though ![]() http://members.fortunecity.com/trevonit/legolas.html (not my drawing) -Tsrill |
