NewsAskew has Smith quoted as saying:

Quote:

"- I am finally... FINALLY... finishing both "Spider-Man and the Black Cat" and "Daredevil: Target" for Marvel. Big apologies on the delays, but I'll try to
make it worth it."

Got it straight from the NewsAskew site.

Good Day, I can never find the time to read as I should these days, but many years ago I read a trilogy, and thought it was over after the 4th book of the series. Now I find that Douglas Adams has extended the Hitch Hiker series with a book called "Mostly Harmless". Do you have it in stock?

I can help you with that. You can find Mostly Harmless, the fifth book of the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker Trilogy, in the Science Fiction section right before Asimov, Isaac. :D [I love 'em both.]

Strolling by.......have the leatherbound copies on my bookshelves at home. When you're done with those get the "Dirk Gently" books also by Douglas Adams. Then, "Salmon of Doubt" and "Starship Titanic," which has an interactive DVD.....

Two Dirk Gently books, the one you mentioned and "The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul."

mumbling 'what to read? what to read?'*

Oh this looks interesting "The Tao of Pooh" by by Benjamin Hoff.

*reads back of book*
"while Eeyore frets, and Piglet hesitates, and Rabbit calculates, and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is."

Something to remind me to 'go with the flow'
To learn 'the way'

*snuggles up on the sofa, opens the book... I just LOVE POOH!

... I can't stand travelling around the U.S. and noticing how many small villages, medium-sized towns, and large cities are losing their own identity. McDonald's Burger King, Hard Rock Cafes, ugh. Give me a Berghoff's or a Russian Tea Room, or a greasy spoon out in the sticks.

Jammer walks in mid-conversation with herself...

...that book. Oh, yeah, it's The Malling of America by William Severini Kowinski. You know he has some sad but true commentary on homogenization of culture. It cracked me up that he specifically mentions Ann Taylor shops. So true, so true!

<Looks around and sees Jerry.>
You know, I couldn't help but overhear your concerns. As a person from a pretty distinct region of the US (Ozarks) I'd have to say that even the greasy spoons in the sticks are now Mc'd and Rocked. <sigh> My family had a cafe in the middle of nowhere, and now there is just nowhere. Wal-Mart store #3 WAS a locally-owned business.

I still take photos of weird signs, product billboards and funny hotel messages. You haven't lived until you've used Boudreau's Butt Paste.

I'm wondering what the alternative is, though. Locally owned places are often so expensive. You can refuse to shop at Wal-Mart until you need some weird plastic home product and you only have a few bucks to spend.

:(

BTW, BIRC, this bookstore is beautifully understated with just a hint of...CK1, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey everyone! Sorry that I haven't poked my head in here for 10 days but I was off buying more books. I assume that Jerry has been taking good care of you. :::OOC - *thinks to self, "10 days! That's crazy, what other things could I possibly be doing for 10 days?!? Drinking? Fight with DWC? Thesis? Oh right, the in-laws arrived." sigh...*:::

Jacksong, we do indeed have Douglas Adams. In fact, he is one of my favourites. We will have to paint "Don't Panic" in a prominent place in the science fiction section.

Christie, you can have a free book for your birthday so if you want to take home the Stephen King novel, please do so. Here is a copy of Jennifer Government as well. *hands over JG to Christie and the other new customers*

Parrrrtay, I've picked up the Tao of Pooh many times but have yet to read. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you Jammer for your comments although I have to admit that I don't know what CK1 means. Google wasn't much help either... ferret cologne? Maybe we should mention it to Kloister for the grooming shop.

Let me know if there is anything else that you need.
*heads off to find the painter for the new quotes and wonders where she last left her towel*

Jerry walks over from the comics section, today wearing his Thieves Do It From Behind shirt. Hey, BIRC, I was looking for Stackpole's Grand Crusade. Loved the first two books of the series and was hoping to finish that bad boy.

Thanks Fudge! Checking out the website under your avatar helped as well!! :) I hope that things are back to normal with MF now. If you or anyone does want to help keep me (in)sane over the next week, please feel free to send PMs, TGs or MSN messages. The break will be quite welcome!

The good thing about the in-laws arriving is that they kindly brought books. We finally have a personal copy of JG, but of course, DWC took it away with him. I also received Guy Gavriel Kay's new novel, The Last Light of the Sun and Stuart McLean's, Vinyl Cafe Diaries, recognizable to any CBC radio fans.

Hey Jerry, we do have The Grand Crusade over in our immense fantasy section. If I do say so myself, it is the best selection in the entire South Pacific. I would be interested in knowing of other fantasy authors you like.

Christie - The Stand is worth the read. Denver, you know? ^_^

BIRC - CK1 is Calvin Klein unisex cologne, and I swear I caught just the barest scent of it as I walked in. May have been a previous browser.
Two questions for you: Where is the cookbook section? And do you have any of Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander series? Waiting list at the libe is too long.

Parrrrtay, can I sit next to you? I just wub Pooh, too. <pulls out well-worn copy of The Te of Piglet.>

Gets a shiver as she hears the Klip Klop of bootheels coming across the parking lot into the store....(Hopes it is Lady Rebels and not Randall).....

Jerry looks over and notes a very wired Christie. Oh, no, another victim of the "must read just one chapter before I go to sleep" syndrome caused by most Stephen King books. I walk over and hand her a copy of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Here, this might help take away the jitters.

I think that David Weber's latest novel, Warmasters arrived last month but the stock boy is always slipping over to the Dew Drop Inn or the massage palour so it may not be on the shelf yet. Gotta do something about him one of these days. Anyhow, you'll find the science fiction section is normally quite extensive. BTW, do you have anything in the comic section by Neil Gaiman? I recently read his novel, American Gods and would like to check out some of his earlier work.

Jammer, the Aubrey/Maturin novels can indeed be found in our historical fiction section. Although her novels cover different eras to those of O'Brian, you might want to check out the Canadian author, Pauline Gedge. I especially liked, The Eagle and the Raven.

Christie, I'm sure that one of Fudge's double espressos will get you back on your toes.

*sits nearby and starts flipping through a catalogue of electronic tracking devices -- hmmm, one for the stock boy and another for DWC... *

Good to hear about the Harrington piece. I'll be looking for it, boss. and, yeah, we've got Neil Gaiman over here. Picked up some back issues of Sandman last week. Let me get them out from the beyond the counter.

I love Stephen King novels for that very reason. I still say that my favourite book of all time is 'Needful Things'
