Eyes are our gateway to the external world; they are windows to our soul. They facilitate us to see the beauty, colours and people around. But in our every day routine we take very little time out for their care. Just as we look after for our hair, hands, feet and other parts, they require our attention and inclination as well. Changing seasons, exposure to grime and sun and increasing use of contact lenses weaken our eyes or prone to different diseases. With adopting a few simple tips and tricks one can make eyes gleaming and twinkling. Take a break Working for hours in front of computers is a main reason for weak vision. Take a break after every 40 minutes work during which look at greenery or any far off object. When your eyes look reddened or feel itchy, wash them with cold water or use fresh rose water to soothe them. You can also use a slice of cucumber or potato as they are very helpful in lessening eye irritation. Protect them from sun Direct exposure to sunlight is harmful for the retina; to protect eyes from UV rays always carry your shades when going outside. Go for sunnies in colours of brown, amber or orange. You can also use a wide brimmed hat for sun protection. People who work in areas of flying particles or dust must use glasses. Look out for warning signs If you hold objects very close when looking at them, feel dizziness or headaches, suffer from lack of concentration or rubbing, then these are the warning signs of weak eyesight and you should consult your doctor. Take care with contact lens These days contact lens are very much in vogue. They make your eyes look more cosmetically appealing but one must use them with great care. Always pay attention when you are applying or removing them because even slight mishandling can cause damage by scarring retina and sometimes can lead to the complete blindness or faulty vision. Wash them with the prescribed/appropriate solution to eliminate dirt and particles. Diet right Right diet ensures a strong and perfect vision. Drink at least 12 glasses of water daily. Eat foods which contain grains and nuts. Citrus foods are especially good for eyes. Ensure regular checkups Do have regular eye check-ups as many problems can be treated if detected early; one compulsory examination in 20s and two in 30s are ideal. People with a family history of diabetes and eye diseases should have more frequent checkups. |
