Although, this is also a Power Rangers related topic, it's also Sentai related to, and more currently, considering that it appears Magiranger is now filming parts of it in New Zealand.

This comes from Tommy Lawson, a reliable source over at Rangerboard and Toonzone.

Okay, I've held out long enough from telling you this. I had been told before that there were going to be Magiranger scenes shot in New Zealand, but I knew you'd be extremely skeptical without some proof, and this is proof enough for me. Take a look at that initial Magiranger preview promo again. It bears quite a bit of resemblence to some scenes from Ninja Storm, and at least one picture of the Magiranger team before its premiere looks like it was taken in New Zealand.

Here are better rumors over the future of PR, and unlike lightning_ranger, I have great confidence in what I have been told. Yes, Magiranger is the end of an era, and no, it does not mean the Power Rangers is ending. Quite the contrary. From what I've heard, beginning in 2006, the sentai shows are to be produced with the help of Disney, meaning it would likely be a co-production. I believe it to be true, since if you take a look at the other shows on Jetix, the new ones like W.I.T.C.H. are co-productions as well. I know that sounds far fetched initially (why would Toei want help with their show), but if you take a look at what they've done recently, recycling themes only a few years old, it makes sense why they would like a bit of help in producing future sentai shows.

This is from an IM conversation I had with Jill of Sentai Spoilers. There apparently are some credits in English for Magiranger:

There's a Mark Springs involved. There is a New Zealand Unit. A Mark Harris, a Steve McQuillan among the New Zealand stunt team. Director of Photography is Gavin Stroud and Simon Riera, Assistant Director Quentin Whitwell. Wardrobe Rachel Voon. Camera Assistant Bradley Willewse, Safety Officer Nick Fryer, Key Grip Gary Illingworth. Gaffer Phil Totoro (someone's joke?) and Tommy Park. Special thanks to Sally Campbell and Janet McIver.

Those last two are extremely important, since one is listed as the current producer of Power Rangers: S.P.D., and the other is the Unit Production Manager on S.P.D. It's unrealistic to think Disney wouldn't be aware of them assisting with the Toei production. If lightning_ranger's talk about Toei not renewing a contract with Disney was serious, then why the heck are those two credited with working on the Magiranger series? I think Toei wouldn't have allowed them to work on Magiranger if they truly were seeking a better deal. I feel lightning_ranger's source is becoming more and more discredited with each new piece of info coming out about Magiranger.

I have a BAD feeling about this.

EDIT: Kinda depends on what Disney workers will be doing. If it's just stunt work, that would be good, but if they are involved in the writing of eps or general direction of the story that is when I see the doom of the alliance.

That could lead to some interesting situations during filimg. If Magi and SPD meet at one point, wonder what would happen? Oh, and the "Disney Alliance" stuff is interesting as well.

Yeah I saw Magiranger twice now and I noticed that it was filmed in New Zealand and some of the actions scenes were done by alpha stunts. I think this is a great idea, show and business wise, it only means great things in the future for both franchises.

You can tell in the opening sequence that it is downtown Wellington the characters are hanging around and live. In the opening theme, you can tell that some of the action scenes are done by Ranger productions because it isn't sentai's style to use wires in that type of framework. It's the wire work made famous by the awesome actions scenes in Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, & now S.P.D. Also in the closing credits it gives recognition to the New Zeland unit in production.

To my knowledge right now, all Disney is doing is contributing to stunts and locations. But in the future it is possible for them to contribute story wise as well as come up with ideas for episodes and series. Like "Let's have a show about winter animals"

As long as they only contribute stunt wise I don't care.

As for the New Zealand comment, last time I checked New Zealand was a soverign nation with its own government. When did Disney buy it out? Because the only way Disney could provide the location is for them to own the locations. New Zealand's government is providing the locations.

When they start contributing stories I smell death, destruction, and mayhem and not in a good story telling way but in a bad "you mother ****ers just killed Sentai" kind of way.

I personally don't really know if this will be a good thing or not. This could turn out really good.....or it could have a really bad effect. Guess we will have to wait and see! <_<
