Okay, recently I've been playing Tales of the Abyss, Xenoblade Chronicles and TESV: Skyrim. I became more attracted to western crpgs (Skyrim, NWN series, BG). |

Interesting games, Li. However the purpose of this topic is to also give a review on these games. Check out the first page, it gives ample explanation. :) |

Okay, so I'll try. But there's one they fear. In their tongue he's Dovahkiin. Dragonborn. TES V: Skyrim You'll know, you'll the Dragonborn's come. Story: As in the three previous games, you start as a prisoner. However, this time...you are carried to be beheaded. Apparently you have illegally crossed the borders between two provinces. Now you end up in Skyrim - the northen frozen land of Nords. It's an age of aggression - Nords oppose to strict government of the Empire and want to proclaim their land. At the beginning of the story you are transported to Helgen along with Stormcloak rebels and their leader - Ulfric Stormcloak. However, that's a different subplot, let us return to the main story. As you put your head before the ugly executioner...the dragon flies over the city. This gives a perfect chance to escape with either merciful Imperial soldier or one of the rebel fellows. As the story advances (after 30 minutes of the gameplay) you face that said dragon. The dragon and the voice from the clouds call you 'Dovakhiin', which in the language of dragons means 'Dragonborn'.The legendary mortal hero with soul of the dragon. That's how the tale of Dragonborn begins. I used to be an adventurer like you... Gameplay: The biggest advantage of this game is... the absolute freedom in whatever you want to do! No strict proffessions, liberty to join as many fractions as you want and complete quests either peacefully or violently - that's the main feature of this game. Unlike many rpgs, you do not gain experience from killing monsters and fulfilling quests, but you develop you skills - advancing 10 skills gives you level up. It may be a bit more time-consuming and absorbing, but trust me - in the previous games it took MUCH more time to level up. There's a wide variety of the skills, for example: Alchemy, Speech, Sneak, One-handed weapon, two-handed, Illusion, Alternation, Restoration, Destruction, Archery, Smithing etc. These skills are diveded into three categories: Mage, Thief and Warrior, but you may develop all these skills at once or focus on the one category. The innovation to this is the perk system. Each time you level up, you get 1 perk point to invest. For example it allows you to deal more damage, create new and stronger weapons/armors/potions, become untedected and so on and so on. Also, what concerns the main quests....I think everybody knows the famous 'FUS-ROH-DAH' shout. The power of thu'um. For every dragon killed you absorb his soul, along with his knowledge. Combined with the power words, scattered across the Skyrim (in ancient tombs, dragon's lairs and ruins) allows you to shout your enemy to death. What is it? Dragons? Quests: So many quests, so little time...Almost every npc you meet gives you a specific task or is quest-related. There few categories of the quests I can think of: main quest, fraction-related quests, miscallenous, radiant and chain quests. When it comes to fractions, you can choose from the Companions (who are pretty much like the Fighter's Guild), to the Dark Brotherhood, guild of assasins. Completing quests gives you gold (of course), rare items or the option to hire npc as your follow or...to marry you. Sometimes you have to choose sides, for example the above mentioned Stormcloaks and Imperial Legion. The former wants to proclaim the land to its true inhabitants, the latter has been loyal to the Empire. And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more- When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor! Music Apart from the lovely background music composed by Jeremy Sole, I want to mention bard's songs. As you visit inns, you may meet a bard, singing one of the few songs. They perfectly match the plot, as they are related to the current events in Skyrim. Okay, to sum up, here's my rating: Pluses: + Graphics - I haven't mentioned that, but the game looks outstanding even at the lowest details. + Music + Quests + Gameplay + Dovahkiing (No, this follows under special category! Nothing's more epic than being a half-dragon AND hunting dragons) + Realism - the bandits may hear your steps in the cave, town folks have their own agenda, shop owners will not let you steal their goods, unless you befriend them. Also guards comment your achievements and progress. + Dragons + Story Minuses: - SO MUCH TIME-CONSUMING! - some interactions: 'So, you're looking for a marriage?' 'Interested in me, are you?' 'Yes, I am, and you?' 'I am interested in you' 'Let's get married' - bugs - no special requirements to join all fractions (if you played the previous games it may disturb you) - NO LOGIC IN SOME CASES. It contradicts the former advantage, but seriously - the bandit's collegue is killed by an unknown assassin. What the bandit does? He walks in circles, searches for the assasin and after 5 seconds he says 'Must have been my imagination' and returns to his job. Thank you for your attention, if you managed to read it all. Actually I could write much more about the game, but then I would spam this forum to death. I highly recommend you this game. It's been one of the most fascinating, advanced crpgs I've ever played. This may be my longest writing piece in English. That's the map of the game's world. Each The Elder Scrolls game takes you to a different province. http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120625115339/elderscrolls/pl/images/d/d0/Mapa_Tamriel.gif Edited by SailorLi, Jan 31 2013, 05:10 PM.

Nope, I haven't played it and I shamefully know it. And no, it all was very meaningfull. Nice and detailed reviewing, as I already stated. Don't question your actions girl. ;) As for Space Core, how do I know about it? Please, every dedicated Portal fan knows that Space Core's love for space was so strong that it allowed it to transcent the Portal world, and travel to Skyrim. XD |

I was kidding. I could write more and more about it, but I'd be running out of space. I didn't mention races for example (which are unique to these games). Space core....Something like this? :P http://epantiras.deviantart.com/art/ATB-022-130920851 Btw. thanks for reading. Edited by SailorLi, Feb 2 2013, 04:15 AM.
