:tx Texas Constitution - New Articles, Amendments & Repeals :tx

November 11, 2013

Alright Texas! It is time to start stirring it up again!

This is your opportunity to propose new Articles to the Texas Constitution, or, to suggest Amendments to the Texas Constitution, or, to repeal previously passed Articles to the Texas Constitution. Whichever action you choose should clearly state reasons for your submission. New Articles should be written up in a manner similar to current Articles. Repeals should cite which Article is to be repealed and why. And, Amendments can be for any part, from a point or a phrase to the entire Article, please cite the portion you would like amended and the suggested new wording.

It is time to get this started since there are only about 3 weeks before Elections! Texans will debate the merits of all proposed changes and should they be deemed worthy, will appear on the ballot on December 8th. There several weeks to think up things, debate things and polish things. Do not wait until the eleventh hour to post a surprise change. Those will not be placed on the ballot unless there is some mitigating circumstance.

The Constitution was written by Texans, for Texans - all Texans. This is your document and it is a living document that is up for change quarterly. Feel free to express your opinions on how it should be changed and the majority of Texas will vote on your suggestions provided there is some level of support in the discussion of the change prior to the current Election.

We strongly urge all Texans to consider taking part in helping mold Texas into the region they would like it to be. Feel free to post on this thread without fear of rebuke. All submissions will be considered.

The debates close Saturday December 7, 2013.

I think we should probably address how we think the selection of TRC members went this past cycle. I think that the process went well and that we should keep it, but think that it would be a good idea get input from everyone to make sure we are in agreement.

The TRC was elected as normal in the last election, because the governor forgot to implement the new article. :p So I really can't tell you how the new process has worked.

I agree with Amandil.

I thought that BT decided to go ahead with having a vote as a straw poll and then made appointments from there. Maybe I need to go back and look at the voting log and the Constitution.

Yes, that is what we did - Straw Poll and appointment. We tried to make it clear to voters that we were not bound by any of their "votes".

Maybe we did not make it clear enough.

Should we just not even put a Poll up?

Well if you are going to make a poll, you might have to make it quite clear, as some nations might want to take part in this but not aware that a poll is up.

What to do?

You're supposed to put up a poll listing your eight nominees for the TRC, and if all of them get the necessary number of votes, they are confirmed. We did a "straw poll" last time because the governor forgot about the new voting method and we had to employ a loophole in the law. :D

Let's try appointing the TRC by the new method this time and see if it works out. If it needs changing we can always fix it before the next go-around.

The Constitution is now updated!

If we are going to do it the right way, we better reread it.

If you want to do a vote for TRC and do it with the other votes, then I think you will need to present a list of 8 nominations for TRC positions that Texans will then vote to confirm. We could still have a nomination thread for people to give suggestions.

Does that sound right NTNB?

Yeah, that sounds good. A nominations thread followed by BT's list of 8 final nominees for a confirmation vote. Everyone will be able to vote for all 8 of them, if they wish, or just some of them. If the top vote-getter gets 15 votes, then the threshold each nominee will have to cross will be 8 votes. Hopefully everyone meets with the voters' approval. :D

Kewl! :peace

We were trying to figure out the part about:
No TV and No Beer

and if all of them get the necessary number of votes, they are confirmed.

Thank you for the clarification!

BTW, it would be nice if No TV and No Beer was not dead in Texas...

A 'new method' ?

Hmm...I think it would depend on the fluidity of the process.

Aqua, this was something we passed a few elections back but last cycle was the first one under the new Amendment. So I'm anxious to see how it goes!
