As a matter of review, here are the descriptions of the positions and the current officeholder:

President - NewTexas
The President of Texas makes overall decisions determining the course of Texas activities, the defense of the region and provides general stewardship. The policies of the President shall not impinge upon any nation of Texas's sovereign rights. The President will also be held responsible for making and keeping Texas great. The position of President [doHTML]will not be elected[/doHTML] but will inherit the the position by virtue of being UN Delegate. The President will handle all requests for Texas opinions on UN matters. The President will also be in charge of negotiating Alliances, maintaining the Texas Intelligence Agency, coordinating the Texas Defense Forces and overseeing immigration.

Vice President - Green-ville
The position of Vice President shall be the second in charge for the Great Region of Texas. The duties of this position will include providing advice to the President, maintaining Texas Security through interaction with the Secretary of Defense and coordinating the efforts of the other Secretaries. The office of the Vice President will also be in charge of the smooth running of the Texas Representative Council. Note: In the past, the position of VP has been both an appointed position and an elected position. For the current election, this position will be Elected.

Secretary of State - Advanced Concepts
The Secretary of State will be in charge of Foreign Affairs. The duties would include assisting with the appointment and management of Ambassadors, providing communication about Texas affairs with allies and negotiating Treaties. The Secretary will also be in charge of maintaining relationships with friendly regions. This position will report directly to the President.

Secretary of Defense - Sweet Furry Kittens
The Secretary of Defense will be in charge of coordinating the Texas Defense Forces. These forces will be used not only in the defense of Texas, but also in the defense of our allies.

Secretary of Counterculture - Murray the Evil Skull
The Secretary of Counterculture is an artistic position subject to interpretation. This position will assist in keeping Texas on the edge both socially and culturally. This is a free-form position open to interpretation. This position will be the de facto Secretary of Entertainment. So, additional duties will include facilitating parties, welcoming new nations, facilitating parties, fun stuff and did we mention parties. This position could also create and maintain the lottery, gambling, sports and leisure activities, as well as keeping Texas in the minds of all NationStates with such phrases as "Hail Texas, Bestest Region in the World!", as well as musicians, movie producers, and other forms of publications. This position is a vital part of Texas!

Secretary of United Nations Affairs - * vacant *
This position would be concerned with United Nations Matters including, but not limited to, creation of UN Proposals, soliciting support for UN Proposals or Resolutions from other UN Delegates and the monitoring of new UN Proposals. This position will also work with the Secretary of Internal Affairs to keep Texans informed of the activities of this position.

Texas Sports Commission - The Bohemian Rhapsody
This position will be in charge of Sports Leagues, will encourage participation, advertise occasionally on the NS message board and assist those presenting sporting events. This is a free-form position open to interpretation.

Texas Land Commission - PAX HEARTLANDIA
This position is not open for nominations, It will be a Presidential Appointment. The Texas Land Commissioner is going to assist in making Texas the Biggest Bestest Region in The World® by creating and maintaining maps of Texas. Due to the great quantity of work involved in that position we cannot just allow nations to vote another nation to do this job, especially if they do not have the skill or time involved. This position will be responsible for the development and updates of the Texas Mapping Project.

Secretary of Immigration - Lord Hannah
This position will be in charge of maintaining a healthy population for Texas. Additionally, some growth is expected depending on seasonally-adjusted factors. Growth is vital for The Great Region of Texas. First, it is imperative that we have the borders secured against invasion. Secondly, a larger Texas gives us a greater voice in combating the UN that threatens to rule our nations. For these reasons, the Department of Immigration will also be in charge of maximizing the Endorsements of the the UN Delegate. This position will also be in charge of welcoming and acclimating new citizens of Texas. This position will also participate in follow-up activities with Texas Exs and attempt to correct any problems. Due to the great quantity of work involved in this position, we cannot just allow nations to vote another nation to do this job, especially if they do not have the skill or time involved.

The nomination process opens Sunday November 25, 2007 and runs through Sunday December 2, 2007. If you would like to campaign for a nomination, feel free campaign on this thread. If you are making a nomination, make sure you list the position and the nation name. In the past we have preferred that nominations were made by someone other than the nation being nominated, however, in an effort to open up more participation, we are casting that aside. Feel free to nominate yourself or your neighor for the open positions. If you are nominated for something and do not wish to run, please make your wishes known here before we make the ballot on December 9th. After the Nominations are closed, there will be a week where nominees can make speeches. This will be followed by a week of voting.

Note: Non-Registered Nations can make nominations, when you make you post, use your nation name. If you are making a nomination and are not a registered member, please notify NewTexas via telegram on NationStates to verify your intent. Voting is limited to current Texas nations only! If Big Tex is unable to verify your nomination, it will be deleted. Thank you for your understanding.

Also Note: Texas Constitution Article XVIII: All Nominated Nations for a Cabinet position are Automatically Nominated for the Texas Representative Council. This is self-explanatory. Nations nominted for Cabinet positions do not need to be not need to be nominated for The TRC as well.

Additionally: Per the Texas Constitution, only citizens of Texas who are residents as of November 25, 2007 are eligible to vote.

And: There are a number of players who have multiple nations registered in this forum. You know who you are and chances are very high that the Texas Election Commission knows who you are too. It shall be considered "in bad taste" for one puppet to nominate another. Furthermore, and we know this goes without saying since all Texans are honorable, but we humbly request that players with multiple nations refrain from using their puppets to vote multiple times. Additononally, per Article XI: Conditions for Ejection Article 3, this is now a condition for being ejected. Remember, this is just a game for fun after all and stuffing the ballot box takes the fun out of the proceedings. Thank you in advance!

Have Fun!

Is it time to nominate? I'd like to nominate all of the current cabinet members (who are elected) for their current positions. You've done a great job, and I appreciate it! By the way, you appointed folks did pretty good too! :bow

We would like to take this opportunity to nominate Kenny of The No Man's Land of No TV and No Beer for the post of Texas Secretary of UN Affairs! Kenny knows more about the UN than just about anyone active in Texas. This is a prestigious position held by many of The Greats in UN Legislative History. Kenny certainly qualifies there as he has seveal successful Resolutions as well as numerous Repeals. Kenny not only knocks them down leaving everyone hanging, he rebuilds them correctly. He would be a valuable addition to Texas's Cabinet.

What is going on here? I realize that people are busy but only two people have come in and accepted their nominations. Does that mean that the others don't want to run for their office again? Don't you have to accept the nomination to run or do you just remain silent and get added to the ballot anyway? I'm not trying to be bitchy or anything I really and acually want to know how this works.

You do not have to acknowledge your nomination. You do have to let us if you do not wish to run before next week when we make the ballots.

Guess most of the incumbents did not feel it was necessary. They will have to fight that pesky No Confidence in the Election.
