CNS Haven (Type 20 Submarine)

Captain James Haven II walked onto the bridge of the newest submarine. The brand new vessel still had that "new ship" smell to it. It seemed strange to be at the helm of a vessel baring his father's name. The other subs had been named after battles of the Texas Defense Force.

It wasn't that James was just "given" the sub command. He had worked d^^^^ hard for it. Chainbreaker didn't have a sub school, so he was sent to the Kingdom for training. He graduated near the top of his class, and was quite proud of that. He could even pull off a somewhat Hiberian accent if he really tried.

Actaully he picked up a lot more than that. While in Port Hope he had met the lovely Miss Meagen. He was smitten, and that was bad becuase he had to be sent right back to sea after graduation. He did manage a very nice dinner before he shipped back. Long distance relationships hardly ever worked, but hell, you don't find girls like that very often.

"Captian!"

His XO snapped him back to reality.

"High Command has given us the green light to start the exersise, we're OPFOR"

Haven smiled, he liked being the bad guy. He nodded to the comms officer, who turned on the PA"

"ALL HANDS AT YOUR STATION! WE HAVE WORK TO DO"

"Lt. Tom, prepare to dive"

An alarm sounded throughout the ship

Naval High Command

Admiral James Haven Senior looked at the readout. His son, no, CPT Haven would take his sub 2 miles out and come back in to "attack" the aircraft carrier CNS Gavin. That is, if he could move past the battle fleet. There would be one other sub, the CNS Isla Norte that would also be lurking in the water waiting to ambush the Haven.

That was the plan anyway.

Admiral Haven wished he could be down there instead of in some office, but his seafaring days were over. A model of an older navy fighter stayed on his desk, just to remind the Star City suits that walked into his office that he had seen a hell of a lot more action than they had. You don't get the top slot by just shuffling papers.

A memo was on his desk about the great new space station. Yippe...
Haven knew that President Chain would be knocking on his door any day now wondering how we can get someone up there. Why did Chainbreak have to be the only country which had all it's planes on a damn ship? This should have been an airforce issue, but hey no airforce, no problem.

The screen flickerd a bit. The CNS Haven had reached it's start point.

The old man leaned back in his chair to watch the show.

CNS Haven - Bridge

The young man was getting quite excited.

"All hands, all hands, we are now running silent. Repeat, running silent"

Lt. Tom cut the engines and glided through the sea.

He had lain out a path on the bottom of the Gulf of Texas using a small valley. Lt. Tom was quite skillfull, and he intended to use every advantage he had. His dad would probably chide him for taking unnessary risk, but hell train like you fight right?

The men we're getting nervous too. The eerie silence was maddening. A ship wasn't supposed to be this silent, but it was.

Silence had it's own sound to it, and it was more annoying than noise.

James looked at the screen. At first it looked like something random, but then it appeared again. He whispered to the XO.

"Hey, take a look at that"

The XO checked the screen, "It's the Isla Norte Sir"

Ahhh... So there sending Captain Strike after him. He was Haven's buddy during Sub School and they we're pretty good freinds.

"Do they see us XO?"

"Negative. There using passive sonar. We're too close to the valley to be made out"

"Lt. Tom, 10 degrees raise bubble, gently now gently"

The sub tilted up just slighty untl the edge of the sub peaked the crest of the valley.

"Hold Lt. That's good. Keep her there."

"Weps, can you get a solution from here?"

Isla Norte

"Captain, there seems to be something funny on the screen, I can't make it out though."

Captain Strike thought about this for a moment. The blip was too small to be a sub. He could go active and sort it out, but that would expose him and that was a mistake.

"Keep an eye on it"

CNS Haven

"Yes sir Captain"

James smiled, "Make it so"

The computer's calculated a firing solution in short time. The computer screen flashed "LOCK" and Haven picked up the mic with a wide grin.

"Rebel Six to Lineman" (Haven to High Command)

"Go ahead Six"

"We have firing solution on the Isla Norte, confirmation code one-six-two-niner-sierra"

"Rodger, Lineman out"

Strike was gonna be so pissed

CNS Isla Norte

And indeed Strike was pissed.

"I'm WHAT???" Strike impaitently asked into the radio.

"You're dead Yellow Six", High Command was most annoyed with his reaction.

"What hit me???"

"You were torpedod by Rebel Six located twenty clicks to your southeast."

Strike put the mike down, then sat back in the command chair.

A few moments of silence.

"Prepare to surface!"

Strike was beaten and he knew it. Didn't mean he had to be happy about it.

CNS Gavin, Bridge
Chainbreaker's coast

Admiral Stonecrest was a gaint of a man who liked to laugh.

Unfourtently, he had just lost his one sub. So he wasn't laughing.

Cpt. Haven got a lot of hate because he was the Admiral's son and all, but damn it:

He was good, and that's what mattered.

His advisor from Gray's Harbor was on board watching the whole thing. He seemed very impressed at the quick work Haven had made of the Isla Norte. The admiral laughed immensely after hearing Strike's suprise over the radio.

Stonecrest didn't see what was so funny. If Haven could get through, so could somebody else.

"Captain, I want those choppers in the air within the next two minutes loaded with depth charge simulators."

The captian got on the horn at once. The King Helicopter's being used would be quite capable of taking out the CNS Haven. Just in case, He would then send out the Amelia with her own sonar on active ping to spot the Haven.

Let's see him get through this.

Naval High Command

The father in Admiral Haven was happy as hell to see his son take out the Isla Norte so quickly.

The Admiral in him was pissed. It should not have been that easy to get past the other sub. James started flying through his various maps trying to see just how he did it.

"Let's see....the Haven radioed in from here...."

The Admiral checked one of the topographical maps.

"Shit"

He saw it now. It was way too obvious. His son has traveled through the Texan Trench. The Gulf of Texas had a small trench just deep enough to hide a sub. It was hazardous, which would get Cpt. Haven a good lecture when he got back, but a blinding weakness.

"Hmmmmm...."

The Admiral picked up the phone.

"Last Line Arms please"

CNS HAVEN
Off the Coast of Sam Houston

Captain Haven knew this was the hard part.
He had ordered the boat to go silent and traveled south away from the battlegroup. With the Isla Norte gone, he could concentrate on the surface ships.

He was looking at the maps again.

Admiral Stonecrest should have guessed by now that he had intialy come through the trench and was probably having choppers patrols all through the trench.

That was fine.

While the choppers and the frigate Ameila combed through the Trench, he would just slip right up on the coast line.

Lt. Tom was writing on clipboards and showing his two drivers when to make adjustments. All was quite.

He was taking it slow, letting the Admiral worry.
