From the TNC, Star City Today Last Line Arms succesfully tested it's newest weapon, the Cyclone. Details of the exact design are still secret but it the Defense Department says the system operates by using a an electomagneticly charged bullet and whipping it around a circular holding chamber until it's ready to be fired. The bullet breaks the sound barrier as it leaves the gun and moves so fast it "rips" the air around it. The bullet also acts as a sabot, sharping itself in mid-flight, and giving it armor piercing capability. When it hits the target, it causes a large hole, and the air around it lifts up destablizing it's flight. Damage is done mainly by the force of impact and not the bullet itself. Most enemy missiles would be torn in half, while bigger bombers would be completly depressurized causes catostophic failure of flight. The twin-circle accelration system was desigined to compensate for the massive amounts of heat the weapon exhibits. The barrels arn't part of the firing mechanics and can be changed within seconds after firing. The Barrels are supercooled to allow 12 shots to be fired before changeing. The aiming is done by the Next-Gen Eagle Eye which can spot targets up to 30 miles away and calculate trajectory. The DoD admits the system is expensive and it's rumored to have been a joint venture between Chainbreak and SamHouston. When asked about the possibily of use in land warfare, the DoD said that the weapon uses too much power to be of use in a mobile land fight. As stationed artty, it would be effective against tanks, but the DoD thinks it's much better as an air weapon. The Cyclone also has possiblites in space. The weapon can still have the bullet reach the same sound breaking speed, even in space. At least, in theory. Chainbreak has no way to test the weapons in space. So far Chainbreaker expects to build 4 such weapons on it's shores. |

Anti-Missile Test an astonding success. The Deptment of Defence announced today that the Cyclone succesfuly shot down 5 out of 5 test scuds. The DoD belives that the system could potentialy be used to defend the New Alamo Space Station, but testing is still required. As far as protecting against nukes from space, the system would have to undergo intense modificaition. The DoD is hopeful. |
