What battleship are you?![]() Yamato class With a main armament consisting of nine 18.1/45 guns, the heaviest displacement of any battleship ever built, the Yamato is the monster of the battleship world. More armor, heavier weapons, and superior optics made this battleship something nobody else wanted to get close to. In the end, torpedos and bombers proved its end as aircraft carriers supplanted battleships as the kings of the sea. Few warships of today outmass it, and none have ever carried bigger guns or heavier armor. The Yamato was overawing beyond any doubt. The third planned Yamato class battleship was actually completed as an aircraft carrier. |

Hmm. Changing just that last "size matters" question to "no" results in a different ship: [DoHTML]<img src="http://images.quizilla.com/T/TJHairball/1072352949_venetiovittorioclass.jpg" border="0" alt="venetio vittorio class"><br>Vittorio Veneto class. (<i>Vittorio Veneto, Roma,<br>Littorio.</i>) The Italian battleship of WWII. Powerful and<br>relatively nimble at 30 knots, it was<br>nonetheless not quite as heavily armored and<br>turned out to be poorly protected against<br>torpedo attacks in spite of a combination of<br>interesting but largely ineffectual<br>innovations. Still a formidable foe, but in the<br>end more impressive in looks than any other<br>category. Although mounting three triple<br>turrets with unusually powerful 15/50 guns - <br>which had a very short barrel lifespan - the<br>Vittorio had a short operating radius and one<br>of the weakest anti-aircraft suites of any<br>battleship built after 1930. Although it was<br>officially intended to stay within the treaty<br>limit of 35,000 tons, it is generally<br>considered to have gone well beyond that. <br><br><a href="http://quizilla.com/users/TJHairball/quizzes/Battleship%20Quiz/"> <font size="-1">Battleship Quiz</font></a><BR> <font size="-3">brought to you by <a href="http://quizilla.com">Quizilla</a></font> [/DoHTML] |

I took the test again and answered as honestly as I could:![]() Chunga class You are a CoNST amphibious coastal defense cruiser. You are designed to be one thing but keep trying to be something else, and can't do either of them very well. On land, you get 12 miles to the gallon, and on the water, your bilge takes on 12 gallons every mile. If you accidentally open the door to get out while sailing, your vessel will sink and you will drown. The navies of all the other nations laugh at you, except when they need to borrow your vessel to go to Wal-Mart and pick up a new air conditioner. |

I had to learn the different classification of current-classed ships from major countries(including our own) and I don't think there is one. Right now active versions of US class ships are as follows: Cruisers:Ticonderoga Class Destroyers:Spruance Class,Arleigh Burke Class Carriers:Nimitz Class, Enterprise Class, JFK Class, Kitty Hawk Class Subs:Virginia Class, Seawolf Class,Los Angeles Class Sorry, no Texas class. There is a USS Dalles though, as seen on Hunt for the Red October, but it isnt a Los Angeles Class ship, it is actually a Seawolf. Not bad for a grunt though, huh. ![]() edited section I was wrong the Dalles is a Los Angeles Class sub, and the Virginia Class sub is produced by Northrop Grumman. |

Yeah, but this quiz covers WW II-era battleships, including ships constructed in WWI that also saw service in WWII. Which means the Texas class wouldn't be included, because it was a pre-Spanish-American war design. In fact, the USS Texas was the first battleship in the US Navy, having been commissioned a month earlier than the Maine. The Texas most of us remember (BB 35) was one of 2 New York class battleships, the other naturally being the New York Both saw service in WWI, and were later refitted and upgraded. The Texas was returned to service after Pearl Harbor, and fought throughout the war. Not sure about the New York, though. The Texas is now permanently docked just off the Houston ship channel, near the San Jacinto Monument. http://www.usstexasbb35.com/ More recently, there was the nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser Texas (CGN 39). It was decommissioned in 1993. Coming soon (next year) will be the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Texas (SSN 775). And there are the Dallas' sister ships, the City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) and the Houston (SSN 713). I don't know about you, but I don't really consider WWI era subs, actual subs. The furthest underwater they usually traveled was 75-35ft underwater and they couldnt even stay under for very long. I didnot know that they were New York class though. They probably should have held off on they name of class until modern day nuclear subs. I just heard about the new sub designation. The USS Texas is a Virginia class. Virginia class is the newest and most advanced class sub in the world. The nuclear reactor, theoretically, will last for 75 years. Under silent rigging, this submarine can only be heard by three different sub monitoring posts and the US owns 2 and UK the other one. But of course the Virginia class sonic/sonar monitoring devices can also pick up the nearly silent sea vessel. |

Pride and joy of Nazi Germany. (Bismarck and Tirpitz) A legendary ship that sank the famous HMS Hood, and<br>the most powerful German warship ever built. A crew topping 2000 men, full displacement just past 50,000 tons, and four paired 15 inch guns laid out a flexible and potent warship, potentially a match for just about any other warship in the North Sea. Unfortunately, in spite of good German optics and impressive statistics, the Bismark ended up getting toasted. Poorly supported by a relatively weak German navy, it also suffered from poor radar, bad fire control, and poor deck protection from long ranged fire. The Bismarck was designed<br>with an eye towards the Baltic battles of WWI, and would have done very well in that situation. 50,932 tons 30 knots 4x2 15/47 12 5.9/55 16 4.1/45 16 37mm 78 20mm |
