Big Tex called me a "Goofball" :)

Thank you. I doubt I can 'show' you how to do a map w/o sitting next to you at your computer, but I can briefly describe the tedious but not too difficult process I went through with mine and am going through with Northwest Houston's map. I work for a civil engineering firm in Houston, and have access to the TxDOT county maps. These are CAD files, which is what's called a vector image, rather than a raster image, like a jpeg, gif or bmp. Basically a database of lines, arcs and text with a graphical display engine. These maps show all roadways and waterways (plus a few other items) within each county. I take the map, set it to display only the major roads (state highways, F.M.'s, U.S. Rtes. and Interstates), and major waterways. I set all the roads to the same symbology, as TxDOT has each type of road look different within the CAD file. I do the same with the waterways. I then set the display window to just a bit bigger than the overall county, turn on the county lines, and capture a bitmap image of the county. From there, it's a simple matter of using the Windows Paint program to change background colors, add dots and text for cities, copy in the trees and hills and cows and wheat and rice and oilwells, etc. The Map of Greenspoint represents about 5 to 6 hours of actual working time. As I said, it's pretty easy, but tedious. My NWH map lacks about 2 hours of work before it's ready to be posted. |

Good info Jmac! For those of us who do not have access to the CAD tools Jmac has, we are attaching a little zip file with some images we received as a gift from the esteemed Renata Unitius of the Holy Empire of Equus of the Region of Wysteria! They are just little things you can put on your map. If anyone else has some "little things", post them here. Here is a listing of what is in the file: army base dot.bmp black dot.bmp blue triangle.bmp border.bmp fish.gif mountain small.gif mountain.bmp mountains1.bmp mountains2..bmp oil well.bmp protected historical site.bmp pump.bmp railway.bmp red dot.bmp red star large.bmp road.bmp rocket75.bmp swamp.bmp tree bunch.bmp tree.gif wheat sheaf 4.bmp windmill.bmp We will put up a better source for maps when we find them, but as a quick link for those that are gung-ho, here is the Texas County Highway Maps Collection and the motherload of all Texas maps is at the Perry-Castaņeda Library Map Collection at the University of Texas. If you find some helpful stuff, by all means, share!

Ask big Tex and he could show you a preview of one aspect of the map. Right now I am working on regions. Let it be known, this is a time consuming process and I got an important trip to Washington DC to work out. PS. Those who are in District 25 (downtown Austin to the Valley) VOTE DOGGETT! |

Map-making Texans! NationStates Texas has an "official" website, but it is under construction for the time being. It was acquired primarily for the Texas Map Project. We will be happy to post nations maps on the site in the near future. The procedure will be to sned the image(s) to NewTexas via email - PM us for our email address. Since we have not finished the first layer map of the entire state (Big Tex's fault, we wll get right back on it) and -Texas- has not completed the second layer map of the regions of the state, then there is no way to "get" to the third layer of individual nations at the moment. So hold tight or if you have your map up on your own website, feel free to post a link here like Jamc did. <remember, patience is a virtue>

I was wondering if I would be out of line if I asked for a small plot of land, city-sized, to place a Colony of Grays Harbor here in the Texas region? Something along the lines of perhaps Hong Kong with a Texas flavour? I like you folks here, and even though I am a Heartlander through and through, I would like closer relations with my Texas friends. |

Certainly King King Paul Emil! Texas is a big place and there is plenty of room. We are sure we can fit you and any of our Ambassadors and other Texas Friends in somewhere.

If Grays Harbor only requires a single city, I'm sure I can accomodate him in one of the fine municipalities along the Bay shore or San Jac River within Greenspoint... Channelview or in that region. Unless we can find someplace else he likes better. I hear Freeport is nice. ![]() Click on my name to the left to see the map.

The Channelview peninsula would be an excellent location for my colony here! Plenty of rail connections for commerce, good water access for my merchant fleet, and a sizable population of friendly, rambunctious Texans to breath a little life into stuffy ol' Grays Harbor. Possible Channelview Crown Colony We would be happy to enter into negotiations over a purchase price for Channelview. |

I like the Louisiana border. But I would also like to border the Gulf. Maybe Jefferson County, if its not taken. |

Not sure if you know already, since it was in EGT's map But I would appreciate it if Richard I gets Hidalgo County and Richard II gets Cameron County.

If you could shoe horn Draconium into Gregg County, and New Draconium into Smith county. (or Gregg heh wont matter either way) That would rock |
