:balloons 80s Costumed Karaoke Par-Tay :balloons

brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Secretaries of Entertainment and CounterCulture!!!

In celebration of that great age of BIG HAIR and wacky music (Devo, anyone?), AbFab will be delighted to host a party of outstanding proportions: A Costumed Karaoke Fest this weekend! I trust Dweezil can bring his enormous sub-woofers so we can have a real blowout!

Everyone must come (are y'all ready for this?) dressed as an 80s singer/band AND sing a song by your chosen artiste. Please pick your poison, I mean, character and song, and RSVP so we can make sure we have the right CD's in the fantabulous AbFab 8000 80s CD changer. And we can allow some lip-synchers if need be (heck, Milli Vanilli got away with it for how long?).

I look forward to hear what creative costumed songsters and songstresses we'll have in attendance! There will be tons of "liquid courage" AKA BEER :beer and TEQUILA :rita on hand. Literally. I'm having one ton of each flown in by this weekend. B) We only ask for no duplicate characters, so RSVP fast so you can be sure to claim your artist now!

See y'all soon!

Cheers,
Toni Basil "Oh Mickey!"

Yvonne of AbFab
Secretary of CounterCulture

PS. There will be prizes for things like best/worst costumes and performances. I think there should also be a biggest hair prize :wow , and we welcome suggestions for more!

There's so much Madonna to pick from, Belili! Good luck narrowing down your song. That could be fun because it could determine your costume some (Vogue vs. Material Girl, for instance).

And LOL, Loverboy!

As for Snoop, Sam, um, technically, I don't know that Snoop was an 80s star. . . . This may merely betray my ignorance of anything not gaudy or garish in 80s music, of course. :spin And I'm horrible with dates. It's not too surprising; I'm pretty bad with figs, too.

Give us the proper discography, folks, and my thought is you can pretty much do whatever you want!

Cheers and beers,
:beerchug

We'd like to encourage folks to jazz things up a little here, and post an interesting photo or graphic once you decide on a character. (You're already there, Greenspoint/Loverboy!)

The emoticons here are great, but a little limiting; I mean, why settle for this:

:headbanger

when you can have THIS:

Posted Image

Rock me, Armadillo! er, AMADEUS!

For those who have never posted a graphic before, here's all you do:

1. Locate the picture on the Web -- either an existing Web image, or
upload your own image to a Web site to which you have access.
If you see a picture you like, right click on it, select Properties,
copy its address, so you can paste it in the next step.
(Don't have a Web site? We can provide space on a Web site
that you can upload to. Details to follow if anybody is interested in this.)

2. Click the IMG button above the text editing area. like this --> [doHTML] [/doHTML]

3. Copy & paste the URL of the graphic into the resulting URL window.

4. Click OK and there's your photo. The more hideous, uh, I mean
interesting, the better.

Just be sure to:

- preview your post before adding it

- be considerate in terms of graphic size & taste

Copyright shouldn't be an issue here since this is a small, closed board
and it's not for public display or commercial purpose. (BUT if in any doubt
at all, don't post it.)

Let's see some interesting entrances to the party!

Hey Yvonne -- Based on the age thread elsewhere on this board, a lot of Texans weren't even born when these groups were around. Do we have any options for those who don't know the Vapors from Adam Ant?

after much deliberation and looking at the many, many different songs we have decided on a few that we would be happy to sing

Angel
Bad Girl
Like a Prayer
Think of me

anyone of those or all if need be.

Nothing beats 80's music than Aerosmith...

I'm still new here, so I dont know how to post pics and all that fancy stuff. I will be signing their greatest hits, including my favorite, Dream On.

Is it me, or are you confused?

I thought that Dream On was sung by Depesh Mode (and not that long ago...)

It's you Pinsnik. Dream On was an Aerosmith hit decades before Depeche Mode even formed. :) Hell, probably before some of those boys were even born.

Greetings, PisniK!

There are something like 3 dozen different songs (or versions of the same songs) named "Dream On" recorded by groups including Herman's Hermits, Dusty Springfield, the Beau Brummels, Helix, Chemical Brothers etc etc etc.

Now there's something I'd like to hear: The Chemical Brothers covering a Herman's Hermits B-side number.

After some consideration I decided to come as Chuck D from Public Enemy, but the song choice is still to be determined.

This sounds like fun. The Furry Felines has chosen to go as The Stray Cats and we will be singing our anthem, "The Stray Cat Strut" as we do a conga line through the party!

You gotta love the hair-do's! We will use some mouse (hee hee ) on our furr and have a big time!

Rock on!

Awesome entries, Texans! Keep 'em coming! Rorschach, I was hoping somebody would do Men Without Hats. Can't have an 80s night without everybody forming a renaissance conga line slurring the inane lyrics to "Safety Dance". Do we have any volunteers for the dancing wench?
