That's right, it is genetic.
Along with hitch hiker's thumb, widow's peak, baldness, near sightedness, astigmatism, farsightedness, free earlobes, dimples, curly hair, alcoholism, diabetes, alzheimers, breast cancer, Sickle-cell anemia, Patau's Syndrome, Tay Sachs Disease, colorblindness, Huntington's disease, Polydactyl, albinism, and hemophilia. It's pretty scary when it comes down to disorders... some are deadly and they're carried through ussually the X chromosome. But since females have two X chromosomes it's often covered up by the other gene. While the male either has it or he doesn't. Females only have it if they got it from both parents, other wise they're carriers or they just don't have the gene. Then it's really scary because she could go and end up giving her child that gene with out even realizing that she had that gene in the first place. So there fore her child could have hemophilia and die because their child's blood couldn't clot so they bled to death.

Yeah.. try sitting through a month of your teacher telling you all these different things that your parents could have passed to you that you could die from later in life. Soem day we'll even beable to get a genetic test to find out what we will die of later on in life. For some reason... I think I'd like to find out. That way I can fidn out if I have a chance to pass that down to my children when I do choose to have any (which will be a long time from now). It's also great when in your next class they're talking about ways to manage your stress so you don't become suicidal. (by the way, suicide is also can be a genetic disorder) Then I head to my next class, choir and learn about all the diseases that can happen to ruin your vocal cords or make you stop talking. I was terrified by the time I got home! |

Well genetics is easy. And some of the disorders are actually pretty interesting. Some are sad too... causing the child to be born with small or no eyes and then die before they reach the age of two.
Yeah, my classes may be strange but they're fun.

I learned how to do it this summer. I can do it for maybe half a second, but I can't do one of those big, drawn-out rolls that I've heard some people do. |
