So, anyway, as some of you have heard me hinting in recent times about a certain "car" I've been after.

I finally landed it. Two years hustling this baby.

1987 Chevrolet Corvette. Remember, it's a 21 year old car.

One owner vette. I have the paper work and maintenance history for this car. 150,000 original kilometers, or just over a hundred thousand miles. (corvette odometers cannot be tampered with)

Car's in good shape. Garage stored, owner used it as a pleasure good weather cruiser. Previously, he was asking too much, but now I caught him in a compromised situation where he just had to sell.

I've got a permit on it right now. Over the weekend my and my friends tuned her and went over it with a fine tooth comb. It's in very good shape.

Needs better mags and soon some new rubber. 350 small block high performance engine; and yes, kids, it's ********* FAST.

Forgive me, Al Gore, for I have sinned.....

No mid-life crisis, or any other bizarre motives. I"ve liked Corvettes since I 've been......eight. Had 5 liter Mustangs, Z28's, Trans Ams, a couple of British sports cars, a rodded Chevelle and a Dodge Daytona, but this is the one that's always eluded me.

Still have my little Sunfire for work, but I plan to put the vette on the road full time very soon as the weather improves.

Actually, highway gas mileage is decent; it's rodding it around in town and so on where it gets really lame. However, compared to every other guy in town who has a giant 4 by 4 truck or a minivan, there ain't too much difference.

Might paint if further down the road. Maybe a metallic light blue, or a neon purple.

Corvettes look best in red or white. I love white corvettes.

I've loved them since I was a kid too. Congratulations. If you want to give it some highway miles drive out here and give me a ride

"Cracker Please".

Its ok that you do not understand it but you can't deny it.

Perhaps you would be better abled to defend it by actually loving that Pontiac Trans Am FireBird Dark Blue that we all saw in 1978.
Smokey and the Burt anyone? :D Jackie Gleason was a little old though....
Wait, thats the mid life crisis SLED of choice for those of us out of elementary scool by 1975.
You must be the 65 graduating class to be the right age to have the Cool Guy Corvette Fetish.

I would not have even brought it up but you could not help yourself but to drop a disclaimer. :ftmth: I know guilty as charged when I see it.
But you don't give a Rat's ass about that you LOVE IT!!!!!!!
(Insert wind in hair smiley here)

What a prize my man. I am glad you have it. Go somewhere well suited and give that #$%@! all the pedal has and report back to us on what 120 MPH feels like!!!!!!!!!!!! :censored: :grouphug: :evilfire:

Didn't understand one word of that. New rubber? :headscratch: Better MAGS? Can there be better Mags? Is that like getting a new pair of shoes?

Anyway she looks MAGnificent.... though being a brunette, I might contest the statement that blondes have more fun. What's her name?

Congratulations Franko! And don't listen to any snide comments, they're just jealous. ;)

Somerled, I wouldn't hunt a car for two years it it was trashed and miled-out.

An hour's drive into Surrey under the bridge there is a corvette lot with tons of discount vettes; most of them need some body work, a new engine, and other stuff. Even then, many of them are overpriced. I just didn't want to get involved with one that needed "lots of work".

The low mileage and one-owner aspect was what made this two-year wait worth it.

My mechanic buddies (all class A certified pros) have already verified that examination of the motor and overall condition is consistant with these claims.

No rust, either. Sorry. But Franko wins here.

Money well spent as well. I guess it all depends where one's values lie. This vehicle was not expensive per se. Not even close to what people are paying for brand new "economy" vehicles. Nothing exhorbitant about any of this.

I've done 120 mph , on the highway heading north to Darwin in a 4x4 .

It was legal then (in 2000) , but isn't legal now.

Mag Wheels - the thing the tire sits on.

And mentioning tires - they are made of rubber

Ok, my mom was the bookeeper at a tire place for many many years. I picked up a bit of knowledge.

Aren't Corvettes made of fiberglass? It doesn't rust.

I wouldn't recommend you follow that advice... a bit slow for a 350 chev.. I used to own a 350chev Monaro (Aussie version of an American General Motors 60's and 70's beast) it had a bit more in her than 120mph.
Oh, by the way, I'm not sure if gentleman prefer blondes.. next time I meet one I'll ask him

They were fuel injected as far back as 1979.

I remember those vettes. They had the 1-2-6 transmission (you shifted from first to second to sixth at lower speeds) to get better mileage.

I knew a guy who had an '84 (first year of that model), but I never rode in it.

I do that kind of trick in my Pajero .... go 1 --> 2 --> 5 , and often start off in 2nd.

I'd only do that if I needed that part of the torque band (sand or loose dirt). Then again, I haven't driven a standard in nearly two years (my wife's CVT doesn't count).

My truckster is an automatic, and yes, I'm fine with that. No one buys a Lexus and gets a manual transmission, even one as old as mine.
