I've received a good number of Emails supporting Huckabee. But I really don't like it when someone writes to me and tells me for whom I should vote. |

Jag, I have nothing against Huckabee. I just didn't like the Emails telling me whom I should vote for--not a good tactic for being persuasive, in other words. |

Jag, A few years ago, Huckabee spoke in Salt Lake City. In his speech (whick was church rather than government related) he stated that he KNEW all about the Mormon Church. He even did a little of at Mormons. I have no problem with that.BUT, earlier in this campaign, he "innocently" asked a "question" of a reporter about Mormon beliefs. When he was called on it, he claimed that it really was a question and not a statement. He said he asked the question because the reporter was a religion reporter and that he (Huckabee) actually knew nothing of Mormon beliefs. Well, he either told a lie then or a lie now, but either way he told a lie. Then, he produced an ad negative about Mitt Romney. Then, he called reporters together to announce that he wasn't going to show the ad in Iowa because, unlike Romney, he wanted to take the "moral" route and not go negative in the campaign. Then, he showed the ad to reporters anyway. He said he had to show reporters the ad because they wouldn't believe that it existed if he didn't. The reporters, of course, faithfully reported the message even though they knew they were being manipulated saving Huckabee a ton of adverstising bucks. Then he showed the ad in Iowa anyway for at least 48 hours after the press conference. That's why I won't vote for the man. Oddly, I have been following his diet plan however with great success. (Huckabee lost over 100 pounds after becoming governor.) |

Agree. Disagree. Wichita - thanks for sharing that story about Huckabee. Sadly, lying doesn't disqualify anyone from American politics. *sigh* |

Just a note - being a pop celebrity is all about having respect for the person who has become a celebrity. Whether or not he deserves the respect is a completely different issue and frankly has nothing to do with my point. You as an individual may not respect the man. But millions of people who have seen his movie agree with it and do respect him for it. You cannot deny that fact. |

I think you may be confusing idolatry with respect. His movie is extremist and alarmist. Scientists are distancing themselves from his claims. If only he ... - followed his own doctrine - hadn't undermined his own cause with sensationalistic tactics - wasn't setting himself up to make billions off global warming On the big scale of respect he's somewhere in Michael Moore's neighborhood. Both have become living caricatures of that which they claim to represent. |

I think it is you who misunderstand. You think everyone thinks like you. They do not. You don't respect the man. Millions of others, including a large number of scientists, do respect him. It's not about whether he is right or wrong and I don't really want to get into that here. It is about whether or not people believe he is right and respect him for it. |

I'll give you that. Out of hundreds of millions familiar with him, a few million probably respect him. Sounds more like a religion than science. Again, idolatry vs respect.

I have to say that everytime I hear that phrase my answer is the same. "I can deny whatever I want to deny." More people world-wide may know Gore's name, but it is highly questionable whether it has increased ANY respect for the man. Even people who believe his version of Global Warming have asked some hard questions about his actions. First schoolchildren started asking why they had to see the same silly picture in every subject. Then judges started ruling on just how accurage - or inaccurate - that picture was. Others have asked why he doesn't practice what he preaches. Yes, he has finally taken some steps in his own home to save energy, but it is still an outlandish use of energy for someone who claims to care about the planet. Add to that his personal use of jets and SUV's and you have a lot of people saying things like "I'll believe it is a crisis when the people who claim it is a crisis start behaving like it is a crisis." Then you have his carbon off-set ...."thing". Sorry, even on its best day it sounds like the ancient habit of buying "indulgences" - something the rich do to appease their conscience and decidely class warfare. Then you have the very real questions about whose company is actually benefiting from the carbon purshasing programs ..... I doubt that Gore would think of running because, quite frankly, he is currently making a fortune at what he is doing now. But, I think as far as "respect" he peaked early in 2000. The rest is media spin. |

Maybe it is media spin, but it does seem to me that the awards that have been heaped on the man - especially the Nobel Prize - indicate that he is respected. I would add that he recieved the prize in 2007 so stating that the respect for him peaked in 2000 seems out of date by about 7 years. |

I will go out on a limb here and say that Al Gore getting the Nobel Prize had far more to do with Kerry losing the 2004 election than it had to do with anything Al Gore actually did. Had Kerry won and was the US president in 2007 instead of Bush, I personally doubt Gore would have been nominated. |
