In the last few days, an theory has been making the rounds of the internet. The suggestion is that, if Al Gore would agree to return to take the VP position, the Democratic ticket would be a virtual shoo-in.

The funny thing about the theory is that it is claiming that it wouldn't matter if Obama or Clinton or Edwards was the presidential candidate. It says let Al pick the candidate he is willing to support and the front-runner will ride his coattails into the Oval Office.

I have some problems with the theory myself. Throughout US history (since the Pres and VP were a "ticket" and not separate elections), one of the convential wisdoms is that the VP should be, at least, able to deliver the VP's home state for the ticket.

Well, in 2000 Al didn't even get his home state to vote for him. (Had he been able to do so Florida may not have mattered.) So, there is no reason for another candidate to assume he could do so now.

But it did get me thinking who might be a great VP candidate - for each of the tickets.

So have at it ..... ... who would you like to see as the VP for each ticket*.

There is a difference now in that Gore has become a "pop" celebrity. He is respected a lot more now then he was then. And just plain known now more then then - he is a "name".

With that said, however, I see no reason to believe that the man would accept an invitation to run for VP. As Dandandat pointed out if he wanted back in the Whitehouse he would probably be running for Pres, not VP.

Hmmm - pick a VP candidate, eh? I will have to think about that one. If Hillary continues to climb then Obama might make a good VP candidate in terms of electability. But seeing how things are going right now I am not sure they would work well together. Things have been getting a bit nasty in the primaries.

As for the Republicans - I admit no one is setting me on fire in this one. None of the candidates for President seem to have a lot of charisma (that's not to say they aren't good candidates - just that they will have a harder time getting elected) This impression may be due to the coverage I get in the local newspaper I usually read. It does have a strong liberal bent and I can tell that they want a Democrat government.

I think it will be a Clinton President and Obama Vice-president ticket

And Romney President and a Giuliani Vice-president or a Mccain President and Giuliani Vice-president. If Giuliani’s strategy turns out to be a good one I wouldn’t be surprised if he chooses Huckabee as VP.

Huckabee is developing quite a following. I don't like to use the world charisma as I think that it is an abused word, but even though he isn't my guy, he is energizing a group of followers.

It is hard for me to think of a good candidate for veep at this point. Perhaps one of the guys who already dropped out. Duncan Hunter or whomever.

A lot of people were talking about Texas Governor Rick Perry. I think mainly because he can presumably deliver the state with the second largest electoral vote payload. Governor Perry is kind of a strange guy. I really don't think that he'd do well nationally. I am still not sure what to think of this guy, he seems to be all over the place at times.

Actually, in suggesting the topic, I wasn't limiting it to politicians.

An "Obama-Clooney (as in George)" ticket would be within the parameters of what I was thinking.

Maybe Clinton-Streisand?

Obama-Oprah?

Jenna would be out, but only because she is not yet 35.

Word is that Streisand's step-son is going to star as George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's projected movie "Bush".

Maybe Oliver Stone should be a candidate - as Kucinich's VP choice. :chin:

If that's the case, then I may just vote for a Clinton. :jawdrop:

Please no Huckabee .... :please:
