Dating Blunder: Using Coupons On A First Date

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Dating experts agree: Using a coupon for a two-for-one meal on a first date is a surefire romance killer.

In the words of dating expert Laurie Graff, author of the upcoming book "Looking for Mr. Goodfrog" (Red Dress Ink), "Not the first time."

She says if you use a coupon early on, "You send a message about your finances."

There are exceptions. Graff knows of one guy who won a restaurant gift certificate in an auction who used it on a first date because he told his date, "I never would have bid on this thing if I didn't know I had you to take."

Meanwhile, love advice expert David Coleman, who calls himself the Dating Doctor, says a "two-fer" is a bad move on a first date, although there are ways around it.

He says it could be an ice breaker if you say, "Hey I have this coupon, would you like to use it together?"

After that, he says the Entertainment Guide can be an incentive to plan future dates.

I've heard a lot about these Entertainment books.

My daughter's school sells the Toronto Edition of the Entertainment Book. We have bought it a lot over the years.

Quite honestly, living in the suburbs you don't use it quite as much as you would living in the city as most of the restaurants are downtown. But we do have enough restaurants out here that we like that make the book pay for itself a few times over. And it is really good when we go out to a very expensive restaurant for a special meal like an anniversary. It can save quite a bit. :woohoo:

Of course my hubby has no need to impress me anymore :D

We used to get those as well. It's been quite a while, but I remember looking through the pages for anything exciting that a 15 year-old (me at the time) could use.

Yes. I only buy shoes if they're on sale, and if they actually fit my oddly-shaped feet.

My wife is a shoe nut. Sometimes she's frugal and sensible about it and sometimes she's not. :P I'm a CD nut, but I always remind her that a CD almost always costs less than a pair of shoes! ;)
