Can anyone REALLY become president or it limited to rich and very well connected families (a defacto USA nobility) who are born with silver spoons in their mouths ?

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
Who was born rich?

Ronald Reagan was born poor

Bill Clinton was born poor

I am not sure of the wealt status of the first George Bush at birth

I am not sure about Jimmy Carter either, but I don't think that he was from a wealthy family

What is leading you to believe such?

Anyone can grow up to be President and people are not limited by family wealth.

Only people whom are Australian can become President, provided that they do not have a lot of cash on hand.

I'm Captain Kirk!
I don't think it takes wealth to become President of The United States. I'm sure some have been rich, but I would gamble a lot come from humble beginnings.

How about a Voyager Movie
1. Have Wealth
2. Become a member of the FreeMasons, skull and Bones and all other important secret societies.
3. Get Mafia votes through Teamsters Unions.
4. Have your opponents wacked.
5. Pay big$$$$ to smart people to think up terms like soccer moms and Nascar Dads.
6. Tell everyone what they want to hear.

OR

Get the VEEP slot and hold out for the Prez to kick it.

There is no denying that money is hugely important in elections but it isn't nearly enough to secure a victory.

There are so many things that matter that are outside of a candidates control. I think the waxing and waneing of political fortunes has a big impact. For example it could be argued that becuase of people's disalousionment (no still can't spell) with the Bush regime that the odds against conservative candidates are higher. You can't buy zeitgeist or change it with money.

Possibly, but considering the choices from the other side, the supposed disillusionment might not be a big deal. After all, there was supposed to be this vast sea of disillusionment back in 2004, but Bush won re-election pretty handily (by the largest margin since his father's time). By the way, the word "regime" is viewed quite negatively in this country.

Yes, you can change things with money. Enough money to buy enough media time and you can make that little white speck on the end of chickens**t look like a pearl. On the other hand, your message can't just be "So-and-so is evil." The American people, despite the image in the world press, aren't that dumb.

Oh sorry I didn't realise. I didn't mean anything by that.

Yeah you never can tell. Everyone was saying in our last election that everyone was so anti Labour and that they would lose a huge number of seats.

In the end they didn't do too badly. Results did not match up to the polls as I recall.
