New rumors out today suggest the eleventh Star Trek film will be inspired heavily by the classic Original Series episode "The City On The Edge Of Forever."

According to the new spoilers, provided by the IESB, the film will feature TNG-era Romulans, led by Eric Bana's Nero, finding the Guardian of Forever seen in the TOS episode. They use it to go back in time to the 23rd Century, planning to kill James T. Kirk before he has a chance to grow into the legendary Starfleet Captain who managed to save Earth not once, but several times.

Apparently, Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, finds out about the Romulans' plan and also goes back in time to warn Zachary Quinto's younger version of himself about the plan. Old Spock arrives before Kirk and Spock have formed their lifelong friendship, and it seems this film may show us the beginning of that bond. The IESB wrote about a "very cool scene" in which Old Spock tells Young Spock about this friendship -- a scene that was described as being "very emotional," despite it taking place between two Vulcans.

The spoiler article was based on reports from the same sources that previously provided the IESB with scoops on the casting of Karl Urban ('Bones' McCoy) and Chris Hensworth (Kirk's father). In addition to the above storyline summary, the sources also revealed that young Kirk will first be seen in the film as he is taking the Kobayashi Maru test -- a supposedly "unwinnable" test that all Starfleet cadets are required to take, and that was previously already seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In that film, we learned that Kirk was the only cadet who ever passed the test, after he reprogrammed the computer simulation

Fire,

Thanks! That's a neat read. I'm psyched too that we might get to see Kirk 'Change the conditions of the test.' :woohoo: :)

BTW, this sounds very similar to the TAS episode Yesteryear in some respects. That too is a very good thing, IMO.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
We need to find out how they got the DNA to clone Picard into Shinzon too. ;)

Seriously, that sound like it might be a good movie if it is done well.

Thanks, Fire

Isn't this similar to what ENT tried to do; put the future in danger by attacking the past?
