I thought it would be interesting to have a SisterTrek Academy Award for Best Guest Star in a TOS episode *

Offer up your ideas on your favourites and who should be nominated. Don't be afraid to even lobby your idea.

After a while, I will make up a poll of the nominees and we will see what emerges from the balloting.

Feel free to add any ideas that you have about this. My data on TOS is already in a downloaded state but if anyone would like to provide a link to a site that has an overview of the TOS series, feel free to do so.

In my next post I will open with a few of my favourite choices.

* I don't know if we can consider Jeffrey Hunter as a "guest star" in The Menagerie; however we can talk about that.

OK, I'm going to kick off with my three of my special favourites. I had to think about this, since there are so many good guest performances; or in some cases just excellent casting.

Ricardo Montalban as Khan SPACE SEED

By now this should be a no-brainer nomination. I was impressed by this performance even before TWOK.

William Windom as Commodore Decker

Gotta love the way he made his character so convincing.

THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE

Frank Gorshin as Bele LET THAT BE YOUR LAST BATTLEFIELD

Maybe a controversial choice; but he does make an impression.

I'll second Frank Gorshin.

Montalban and Windom were also good by my second two choices would be:

Michael Ansara as Kang

William Campbell as Trelane

I think the one that made the most impact was Joan Collins, gave TOS a lot of pop icon cred

Great choices Franko! :) I'm gonn have to go with William Windom. He was so convincing as Commdore Decker; A man haunted by a monster and a dead crew.

I think Montalban is a great choice. I would add to the list a few others: Robert Walker, Jr., Attorney Melvin Belli, and Kim Darby. Also, Clint Howard and Pamelyn Ferdin for honorable mention.

There were a great number of guest stars on TOS that deserve recognition.

Mark Lenard as Sarek and the Romulan Commander in Balance of Terror came to mind.

The beautiful Jill Ireland as Lyla in This Side of Paradise was good. How about a young Teri Garr as Roberta Lincoln in Assignment Earth? :headscratch:
We mustn't forget the impressive performance of John Colicos as Commander Kor.

Come to think of it, I think there was only one guest star who had a repeat appearance on TOS. I'm referring to the somewhat obnoxious Harry Mudd aka the late Roger C. Carmel. :ugh:

Are there any others?

Well, William Campbell was a repeat guest star, but played two different roles (Koloth and Trelane). There were other bit players that had roles in several episodes, but none with the notoriety of those listed thus far, I don't think.

Ricardo Montalban as Khan

William Windom as Decker

Frank Gorshin as Bele

Michael Ansara as Kang

William Campbell as Trelane/Koloth

Joan Collins as Edith Keeler

Clint Howard as......

Pamelyn Ferden as......

I'm going to let this thread go a little longer before making a formalized list.

Feel free to offer some more guest star suggestions. I was thinking of making the first poll like a "first ballot" situation, where we would eliminate the peripheral contenders and then have a second poll for the most popular ones.

I will also compile a reference thread so that others can recall the appropriate TOS episodes better.

Hey good Topic Franko.
Now If I could only choose one...
I like your idea about the first poll thingy. Or maybe by season.

:juggle:

Like Commodore Decker said...'I Can't!...I can't..

All the ones mentioned are excellent choices. I also like Capt. Tracy. And Finnegan, Or Robert Walker, he was an odd character..Know what I mean?

 :o ;) I'm getting the feeling we might as well just do them all !

I actually still have a couple more to add. I will provide a reference thread for this with pictures (thankyou) but feel free to add any late nominations in this thread.

I've included all suggestions here, but for guest stars who had pretty small parts; I'm not so sure, to be honest. However, I will list all those characters suggested, nevertheless.

This was why I wanted to have a first and second ballot.
