Actor and writer Denny Martin Flinn, co-author of the screenplay for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and a Star Trek novel, has died at age 59.

Broadway World reported that Flinn died last month in California of complications from cancer. A theatre student from San Francisco State University, Flinn worked as a dancer in college, then moved to New York and was seen on Broadway in Sugar and several other musicals both in New York and touring. He restaged Sugar for its west coast premiere and choreographed Charles Strouse's off-Broadway musical Six.

A man of diverse talents, Flinn wrote and directed the musical Groucho and choreographed video sequences for soap operas and movies. He wrote a non-fiction book about the making of A Chorus Line and several other books about musical theatre, plus two mystery novels whose protagonist was the grandson of Sherlock Holmes.

In addition to writing Star Trek VI with Nicholas Meyer, Flinn adapted Meyer's The Seven-Per-Cent Solution for BBC Radio, as well as Don Quixote, which won a British Writer's Guild nomination. The Fearful Summons was the title of his Star Trek novel for Pocket Books.

Our condolences to Flinn's wife Barbara and two children.

I didn't know the name, but that is a wonderful film. It's our eldest son's favorite--has been for several years.
