It didnt have a mouse with it, so I bought an optical mouse. It lights up when it is plugged in, but I get no pointer on the screen. If I bought a cheap old ball mouse, do you think it would help or do you think there is something else going on? It runs Windows ME. I really only want to use it for storing photos, and playing music, so buying Windows XP or Vista is out of the question.

I have no idea about the licensing for Photoshop Pro, so i dont know if bootleg copies are available from bittorrent, which is why I'm suggesting the following:

Sounds like an opportune time to give Linux & The GIMP a test run, if your just going to use it to store photos.

As a pro photographer, probably time to really get into either Photoshop or The Gimp, but as I said, if you already have Photoshop, forget about it.

As for the mouse, you need to install the driver
And check the USB port is working & detected

I have Photoshop CS2. Any photoshopping will be done on my laptop.

Also, it didnt have a USB plugin. It is the standard green mouse plug in.

But, I will look for the driver on Download.com, and put it on a CD, and load it onto the desktop. The mouse didnt come with a driver disk.

Found the driver, and put it on a disk...tried to install it, and nothing happened. Guess I need to spend $20 for a recovery CD from Gateway. So, $20 for the recovery CD, and $13 for the mouse, I've spent a total of $33 on this computer.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
You really need something more recent than ME that has some decent plug-and-play features. You could try ubuntu.
