I know all my neigbours , and all the kids. It might not be an affluent neighbourhood , but we do have sense of community here. Kids tend to bring communities together. |

We have two neighbors that we know well. One lives on the ten acres next to us, and the other lives about a mile away. |

I know most of my neighbors, even if they're all on acreage and are, for the most part, over half a mile away. We watch out for one another. |

Nope. Way too much criminal activity and such going on in this neighbourhood. It has always been that way. Most "good/nice" neighbours have either moved away or passed away over the years. And in their place came more of the same people who cause alot of trouble. Just this past friday a 15 year old girl got beat up by a 14 year old boy in this neighbourhood. Luth and I saw the girl lying on the ground and "helped" (other people were already at the scene, but didn't seem to know what to do in the panicking state that they were). We made sure the emergency service (911 in the USA I believe) we're called and waited till they arrived. I believe the girl's fine now, haven't heard anything about it anymore, so I think she is. Needless to say Luth and I were quite shocked of what happened and the girl was unconsious when we first saw her. She later regained consiousness and was taken into the ambulance by paramedics when they arrived. We left shortly after that because family from both sides appeared and seemed ready to let their argument descend into a fight. These incidents don't happen very often, but at least once every 2 months somethings up.

I miss the street parties that we used have in my old childhood neighbourhood ( that used to happen on New Years Eve, Australia Day, The Queen's Birthday (Cracker Night !!! , oh the bonfires and fireworks , great fun) when the street was blocked off with barrades to keep non-residential traffic out). We used to be able leave the windows open and doors open in summer when we out and everyone knew everyone. |

Sometimes folks from an igloo across the flow bring me over some seal blubber. But still won't invite me into their pool. OK, I got issues. |

Did this even have to be a poll? |

Well the addition of a poll really doesn't make any difference IMO. Anyway in my 'neighbourhoof' (That word isn't really used here in the UK) we don't get on with out neighbours, only know about two of them and we don't see them often enough to care all that much. |

And we work so hard to get rid of those stereotypes. I've been in this flat for just over two years, and I know about 5 of my neighbours in my building(out of 11, I would be number 12). Oh and my dad lives close by. I know of one other friend in a complex not far away. This is a small city, most of these people, I've known before moving here. But I've been here longer though, except for dad and one other neighbour. I don't talk to any of them that much, but our children often play together. |

If one were to watch The Wonder Years, that would be a very good capsule analysis of my neighborhood when I was a child. I had the best friend (yes, we traded baseball cards and rode our bikes for miles); the baseball mit or basketball that rarely left my side; and the penny-candy stores at which one could buy more than one piece of candy for a penny. That show depicts very accurately what a child of the late 1960s had in their neighborhoods, at least in the USA. It's a bit eerie how 'right' they got it.

"Can you take Boomer out for me?" "I told the UPS man you'd sign for me....." Thank goodness he looks like Val Kilmer. |
