Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
Anyone watch this?

This was not a special effects heavy episode, but the scene in which they show the place on Vulcan for the meeting was cool.

OK, something strange that accurred to me just after watching this. The Vulcan lady T'pau refers to this ceremony as the "heart and soul" of Vulcan. OK, there was this pop music group in the 80s called T'pau (named after the Star Trek character) and their one big hit song was called Heart and Soul. I wonder if they were inspired by this line to write this song.

Something else that occurred to me during the show. Why does captain kirk and the humans get cool haircuts but the Vulcans all have to have dork haircuts.

Also, why does T'Pring choose that Giligan-looking Vulcan Stonn over Spock? I mean, c'mon.

Anyway, Spock describes the Ponfar as comparable to the salmon who have to risk their lives to back to the one spring that they hatched in to mate again. So, Vulcans have to go back to their home ground. That made me think of Voyager and the Vulcan crew member who had Ponfar. I don't remember what they did for him, something on the holodeck, I suppose.

I take it you mean the remastered version, as that pic looks foreign to me

But, Gilligan wasn't a nerd, he was a dork. Anyway, everytime they showed the guy I am wondering why she chooses Mainard T. Stonn over Spock.

Hoss,

I think she chose him over Spock because it was flawlessly logical. In any event, I can't imagine physical appearance would matter to a Vulcan. Either way, T'Pring (Arlene Martel) made sure that she came out the winner.

Cool fight music too. :)

I cranked up the sound during the fight scene just to hear the music. :D

Yeah, I am sure that it was logical.

So, I am left wondering if during their non-Ponfar time they even care about sexuality and relationships. If not, what was Stonn up to? They must care some or they wouldn't stay married.

I wonder how it worked out that Sarek ended up with a human woman. Maybe Sarek rejected his betrothed and then was free to play the field.

I still love the scene at the end of this when Spock sees Kirk alive and gets excited and smiles real big. You just knew that McCoy was going to jump on that.

Wasn't there a scene in which spock crushes his monitor out of anger? Did they cut that one out?

I wonder if with Stonn it was purely political? You're right, though. They must care somewhat.

I recall Sarek saying (in response to Spock's asking him why he married Amanda), that "At the time, it seemed the logical thing to do." ;)

Yeah, esp. "Jim!" :)

He throws his soup, and he yells at Nurse Chapel. He does crush the wall (and perhaps what looks like a monitor) in his fight with Kirk in This Side of Paradise. I'd have to see that episode (Amok Time) again, but I think you're right about the monitor. I do know that the televised versions are heavily edited.

Yes - they did do something on the holodeck and later when Tuvok has his Pon Far they programed it with a projection of his wife.

I watched it and enjoyed it. Did you see the Vulcan city in the background of the ritual site? Look closely. They got the idea of the Vulcan city from The Animated Series episode Yesteryear.

T'Pring is a very logical female. She played it so she came out on top either way. I glad I'm not Vulcan. The whole Pon Farr groove cramps my style. B}

I am looking forward to the reanimated EP's as well.

It seems to me that whomever held the rights to ST previous to CBS waited too long. The animated series should have been released 3-4 years before it was.
I would like to see the individual episodes released for say, $5.00 US download, a month or two after their airing. That way fans can have their say on them.

A year later, the season released. ST TOS is a very small market.

Remember that in the 5th movie, Sybok was introduced as a son of Sarek from a previous marriage. I believe that Sarek had previously married a Vulcan wife, and that union resulted in Sybok, Spock's older half-brother, who was later disowned by the family (and pretty much by all of Vulcan) as a heretic. Somewhere along the years, the Vulcan wife died. We must assume that afterward, Sarek met Amanda when he was ambassador to Earth.

I would have to watch The Final Frontier again to make sure of all this.

I thought T'Pring made it quite plain that since Spock went off to Star Fleet that he had become almost a legend among the people. She didn't want to be the consort of a legend. That's why Stonn was the more logical choice. He was the Vulcan most likely to be...most unremarkable and ordinary.
