As a non-American I found the Omega Glory to be absolutely dire.

Slick,

LOL. Well, it does have the benefit of being the only episode in which someone other than the Shats plays Kirk. ;)

DS,

I can see your point. But, you'll get used to it--in time.

Fascinating.
I find myself flabbergasted.
What self-respecting Trek fan can mention a list of the worst of the Original Series without including the monumentally awful episode that stands as the worst in the history of the franchise:

'Turnabout Intruder'.

Or, as it is more well-known:

'James T. Kirk- Queen of the Universe'.

Watching The Shatner swishing around the ship; Not a single member of the crew realizes that anything is wrong until Spock performs a mind-meld; Spock bringing whatshername in to testify, holding her hand, knowing all the time that it was Kirk's mind in the body, thereby announcing his man-crush on his captain to everyone who could see.

Awful, awful, awful.

I'll give you that one as the second worst - after The Alternative Factor.

[I didn't want to start a new thread, and I couldn't find one for this episode. ]

We watched And the Children Shall Lead over the weekend. I enjoyed this episode. It's not one of the strongest, but there are still things to like about it.

I still can't get over the scene in the cave (first fifteen minutes or so) in which Kirk and Spock are talking, and Kirk is suddenly overcome with anxiety. I had never seen this scene before I purchased the VHS tape of the episode some twenty or so years ago. It's an important scene, too.

I wonder how much Melvin Belli got for his role as "Gorgon" the friendly angel? (Incidentally, this name isn't spoken, I don't think, by anyone except Kirk, near the end of the episode.)

Gotta love Tommy Starnes. He also played Sam Kirk's son (James T. Kirk's nephew) in The Flying Pancakes ;). I read where he (Craig Hundley) is a classical pianist, too. Too bad they couldn't have worked that into the script.

Pamelyn Ferdin played Mary. She was probably the most prolific actress of the 1960s and 1970s. I believe she was in every t.v. show ever made. ;)

The cast was every bit as ethnically diverse as the Bridge of the Enterprise. For a moment, I thought I was watching Kelly's Kids. ;) That was some nice casting, IMO.

Incidentally, isn't this the only episode in which we see the UFP banner? I don't think it was in The Omega Glory, but it may have been.

I can't name a worst episode, but maybe I can come up with one or two that I don't really enjoying watching as much as the others.

The Alternative Factor isn't one of my favorites. I also am not that fond of Metamorphosis, although these statements are of course relative. (In other words I'd rather watch them than episodes of other t.v. series that are banal and otherwise uninteresting.)

"Effective against all things... except wood!"
Omega Glory. Very right wing undertone. Standard member of Starfleet goes nuts story with an ending that almost makes you want to fall to the floor, beat the carpet with your fist and cry out "Damm dirty apes!" Well either that or grab a sick bag.

I was surprised at the nomination for Turnabout Intruder. I like this one because it dares to ask the question of what ingredients make up a man or woman and can a woman be accepted in a lead role. When I watch the episode I remember the Kate Bush song, Running Up That Hill. "If I only could, I'd make a deal with God and get him to swap our places." That curiosity of wanting to know how the other feels and what it's like to be the opposite. It spoke of how Janet blamed her sex for her not being a Captain, also her feelings of always being put down by male collegues and focused her need for revenge on the prime male in her life. This is a psycological drama about an ancient machine that fulfiled the curiosity of an alien species turned into an instrument of revenge by a woman who was beutifull, intelegent, but also slightly unhinged. Oh, did you know that in the Middle East a man can hold another mans hand and there is no suggestion of man love, but a man can't hold a womans hand? I watched one of those short fims on Current.tv, a new channel on Sky. :chin:
