I thought some of you might be interested in this news.
The new season of the Star Trek Remastered series starts in syndication across America next weekend as " The Galileo Seven " makes its upgraded debut. Beginning the weekend of September 15, fans of this first season classic will be able to see the Murasaki 312 quasar as never before, along with the customary upgrade in visual quality we've come to expect from the series. Click here for our updated air schedule. Also, for those of you who have gone all the way and already purchased your HD-DVD player, you will be able to buy Season 1 on the hi-def format on November 20! (For the tech minded out there, these discs are in 1080p resolution. Please note that these are also hybrid discs which means you can play them on a standard DVD player.) Here are some more details! http://www.startrek.com/ |

^^^ Intrepid, I am assuming you're asking about the DVDs mentioned above, and not the standard DVD issue of a few years ago. I don't believe The Cage is included in either one. I know it's not in the earlier issue, as I own that set. My guess is that it will not be included, since it wasn't part of any legitimately-broadcasted iteration of Season One of TOS. |

^^^ Thank you Fesarius. Having just watched "The Menagerie" lately, I was wanting to watch the so-called pilot episode of TOS. I'll have to check out our public library and see if there's a copy out there somewhere. |

It was featured as an added bonus in the season three box set with commentaries from GR himself. I don't think the HD version has it though. It's logical to assume it will be included eventually when the rest of the HD series are released.

Trep (tm: captain_proton_au = $$), I can tell you that The Cage is included on the individual standard DVDs that were distributed within the last ten years. These are the ones that included two episodes each of TOS. The very last volume, which is numbered vol. 40, has three complete episodes on it. These are no. 79 (Turnabout Intruder), no. 99 (The Cage, b&w and color version), and no. 1 (The Cage, full color version). Here is a view of the volume (vol. #40), plus the write-up from Amazon: ![]() http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-E...93680512&sr=1-1 "Turnabout," Ep. 79 - A female scientist, jealous of Kirk's career, uses an ancient alien device to trade places with him and take command of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series' final episode! "The Cage," Ep. 99 (B&W and color) - The two versions of Star Trek's rarely seen pilot star Jeffrey Hunter as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. On an earlier voyage of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise, Kirk's predecessor Captain Christopher Pike tries to rescue an Earth crew that disappeared eighteen years earlier. But it's a trap! Pike is imprisoned in a zoo-like cage and studied by a mysterious higher life-form. "The Cage" Ep. 99 was reconstructed with black-and-white footage from Gene Roddenberry's work print and color footage from "The Menagerie" Ep. 16. "The Cage" Ep. 1 (Color) - This episode includes the long-lost color footage (believed to have been destroyed) from Gene Roddenberry's pilot episode. 185 minutes. |

After my post on the Murasaki Quasar referred to in Data's Day, I just had to watch The Galileo Seven last night. I'll have more to say about it once I get my thoughts together on some new things I picked up in the episode.
