A very special effects heavy epsiode this week. I can't wait to see what they do to enhance the USS Constellation.

Just turned it on and found "Friday's Child" instead of the originally scheduled "Doomsday Machine" Schedule in this forum has been updated (if anybody notices schedule changes in the future. please let me know, thanks).

I watched this last night.

I noticed that the scenes with the ship in orbit looked good. Really good.

Also, I think that the part where the Klingon shot the hand phaser might have been touched.

Again, it also seemed that scenes had been cut some.

I'm Captain Kirk!
I watched it twice last night. The exterior scenes looked really good. I didn't see any other touch ups.

One of the most notably enhanced scene (I taped it so still have not had a chance to finish it, wild card games y'know) was the scene with Scotty and Chekov at the science station. The small screen effect there was noticably enhanced, more detailed.

I have to concur with the compliments on the orbital shots. This is by far and away one of the best they have done.

I noticed the bit about the bridge screens as well. It was in my original post which was lost when I lost internet access while I was posting.

I don't know if I'd rather own the original origina series on DVD or the new fixed up original series. I like the new visuals, but there is just something that I love about the old hoaky special effects and mega-dramatic music that just makes it Star Trek.

I agree.

Partly for me remains how the Enterprise herself appears in these enhanced versions. Sometimes it's real good, other times it looks "animated". Really there are some points where the model just looks more believeable. Maybe the model with CGI backgrounds would be best...

One other effect that was nicely done was, although not terribly clear due to it being fairly "distant" was seeing a Klingon ship instead of a glowing, spinning light when the Klingons attempted to block the Enterprise from returning to Capella.

Characterization in this episode is one the mark it as being quite different from TNG especially. Towards the end of the episode, when the Klingon emissary starts stirring up trouble, Kirk tells Spock that one of them must get the Klingon. They figure, I guess, that since no rescue has been forthcoming that something must have happened to the Enterprise. Spock at that moment asks, "Revenge Captain?" To which Kirk replies simply, "Why not."

I don't think any regular series starfleet captain that we have seen, other than Sisko, would make such a statement.
