Don't make me use my bare hands on you.

Note from Wichita: The moderators will make changes to these policies as they see fit. For now, I am simply editing the current polidy to reflect changes in the forum organization. 5/26/07 This topic may be a work in progress depending input from other moderators here, so look for changes, but below are the basics. This forum will be more heavily moderated than the politics forum, but hopefully not more heavily moderated than other forums. Below are the rules that I had pinned in the politics forum of old. I think that they still apply here. In addition there will be a warning system, which will be posted in this thread at a later time. Invisionfree ToU First of all, there are the Invisionfree Terms of Use. Harrassing Either post your topic here or in the Politics forum. Not both. If someone else wants to post a similar topic in the opposite forum, that is acceptable. Polls If you post a non-binary poll and don't provide an "other" option, one may be added by a moderator. There are very few binary topics worth discussing so there should probably always be an "other" option, or at least an "I do not agree with any of these answers" option. Tangenting Second, there is the ever-ambiguous area of tangenting. In many of the other forums tangenting is more acceptable and fun. And in this forum some tangenting from the primary topic is to be expected in the natural flow of a normal discussion. But, tangenting that just goes off in an entirely different direction can make a thread incoherent. So, there are some guidelines for tangenting, but I am afraid that they might be sort of gray. Tangenting that would normally occur when discussing a subject that follows the topic of the subject is fine and acceptable. It is the natural progression of a discussion. For instance, a topic my be started discussing the need for border security and guest worker programs for the USA – Mexico border and it may evolve into cultural assimilation of Mexican Immigrants, English language only policies, effects on education and health cares, etc. Tangenting that completely changes the subject and goes off into the weeds, is what we are trying to avoid. That can make it very frustrating to have an intelligent discussion and that is really the main intent of this forum. Most of us love being silly and we have forums that allow for that. Trolling, Baiting, Flaming, etc. Basically, what I mean here is posting stuff that is intended to (or even unintended) to produce an angry reaction from another poster, or to start a fight. Or also, attempting to brow-beat, make personal attacks, or shout down another poster who is in disagreement with you. A lot of us take politics very personally and develop emotional attachments to our opinion and get insulted if someone else shows a lack of respect for our opinion. So, being deliberately rude and/or insulting just starts fights. So, this is not tolerated and such posts will be deleted. If you can’t talk about something without being rude and insulting, don’t talk about it. You aren’t going to convince someone to your way of thinking by calling them names anyhow. So, calling someone or their opinion stupid or similar will get you post deleted If there is a topic that is not specifically about politics or it is about politics, but is more of a fun thread like an editorial comics or whatever, it may get moved to “kickback’ forum. Just so it remains quasi-serious in this forum. Temporary Thread Review If a thread is deemed questionably by an administrator or moderator, but not a decisive delete, the thread may be temporarily closed for review by the team. After a review the thread will either be reopened for normal discussion or permanently closed with the reasoning behind the decision posted by the appropriate admin/mod member. Sources If you are going to post stuff as though if were true, put a source. If it just your opinion, state something like “In my opinion …” You will immediately get harassed by everybody for sources anyhow, it is just a good idea, but it isn’t going to get you deleted. Accusation of Bigotry Edited by Wichita - this area is under revision for the use of specific poster names and for clarity. (Will also be revised in Community Guidelines.) Political Satire The use of political satire in this thread is allowed and welcome even if this means referring to political figures in a less than complementary manner. Please do not take offense, your complaints will fall on deaf ears. Feedback Please PM moderators with questions, comments or criticisms or these policies. Thanks |

Updated 5/26/07 - by Wichita Well, it has been a while and I think that most should be acclimated to the new forum set up. I am now going to start being more stern on the warnings system. 3 warnings – 48 hours suspended 6 warnings – one week suspended 9 warnings – one month suspended 12 warnings – banned Remember if you don't like all the "censorship" and you want to be rude, go to the other forum. You don't have to make a pain of yourself here, in fact it won't be tolerated. Thanks |
