That's too bad. Sorry to hear that about Greg and his health. I always liked the Wiggles. No matter who the kid, it seems their songs just connected immediately. Maybe some subliminal thing...? :P

My three-old loves doing the "Hot Potato," "Here Comes a Bear," and "Lulla-bye Bear" dances. It's hilarious!

Reminds me of a quick promo I saw for some sitcom one day a while back. The parents took their little ones to a Wiggle concert and afterwards were talking about all the kids dancing. The dad said it looked like a big mosh pit of 4-year olds!

Well, as long as Veggie Tales stays together! ;)

Why don't Americans have homegrown kids singing groups?

:blah1:

Of course the Americans can't because we are inferiour in every way to the much more successful rest of the world.

By the way, there are American kids singing groups. They are all over public television. Thanks

Never heard of her. Seriously

However, I was just joking with my comment. However it does seem that the most succesful groups in that genre have come from outside the US. Do you remember Sharon, Lois and Bram (The Elephant Show). They are Canadian as well. In fact I used to play in an orchestra with Sharon's husband and I have met her many times. Lovely lady.

I know you were kidding. :)

Here is Laurie's website: (link)

She has played on some kid's channels like Noggin. She's not as well-known as the ones that have their own TV shows, but her popularity has been growing. She was also in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Edit:
Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Actually, I don't remember Sharon, Lois and Bram.

I'm guilty of that. I've been to several Wiggles concerts and sang along with the kids. My personal favorite was "Hot Potatoe". I was always a little embarrassed when other parents around me saw how I got into the concerts. I watched them(The Wiggles) all the time so I was sort of a fan myselfl.

So - The Wiggles are Australian and The Doodlebops are Canadian (bet you didn't know that)

Why don't Americans have homegrown kids singing groups?

The Boobahs are British - but they don't sing. And thankfully my 5 year old is already too old for that show.

Oh my I saw that sho once. It is how I imagine being on drugs is...

My point is that those groups you see all over the PBS stations are generally not American.

It's a well known fact that the majority of children's programs are filmed in the UK, Australia and Canada. That includes the cartoons and other shows on channels like Disney.

As for Noggin - I saw that when I lived in Houston. I thought I was watching TVOntario! Do they still show "Daniel Cook"? He's the little red haired kid. That's filmed in Toronto and started as a local show.

Don't worry - I am not putting down Americans with these comments. You guys are still the kings of prime time adult shows. :wave2:

How come other countries aren't able to fend off Disney and market/exploit their own talent? :P

Didn't America create the genre with groups such as these?
Mickey Mouse club
Zoom
Jackson Five

American culture has probably just matured past this phase.

Do these count?
Backstreet Boys
NSync
Boyz II Men
New Kids On The Block

Fend off Disney? Are you kidding? They are making millions off Disney. Why would they do that?

I am good friends with the aunt of the kid who did the voice for Rollie Pollie Olie. Lots of Disney Playhouse shows are done up here. It's beneficial to the industry up here, not detrimental.
