TOS's only two parter gets its update. If you've seen it (and why wouldn't you?) post your thoughts here. I'll be back later with my own... |

I wouldn't because I am rarely home on Saturday afternoon when they show it on the one station I get from the US that has it  Hopefully I will eventually catch the reruns. |

I missed the first fifteen minutes, but I did catch the remastered shuttlecraft scene. It was cool to see StarBase 31 on the nose of it. I also caught the starfield in the window behind Capt. Pike's bed. It liked really good. |

It is getting to a point where it is hard not to get excited about these redone episodes. The updating gives them something of a fresh look and makes it fun to watch them. Plus, given the fact that they are selecting some of the best episodes (well, okay, "Miri" was one they could have waited on redoing in my book...), the stories are as good as they ever were. From the original version you could look at the scenes with the Starbase shuttle and realize they were using stock footage of scenes with the Galileo in other episodes-- just not showing the signage. Correcting that by labelling it properly certainly was worth it. One scene that I was not terribly impressed by was the reverse angle view when the Enterprise is looking for the Shuttle following them. I guess they could not resist putting the images of the nacelles in, but I would have been just fine with a starfield falling behind instead. As to the story, the thing that has often struck me is the difference in Spock "now" versus his younger self seen the the flashbacks. Young Spock seemed more gung-ho in some ways. More ready to follow orders as directed and more likely to see the the Talosians as a threat. Older Spock must have relfected on the Talosians and their situation to have been able to come around to the idea of being willing to risk his career to return Capt. Pike to them. I am looking forward to seeing part 2 this weekend. |
