Some of my most prized treasures are the TOS blooper reels that I own. They're a lot of fun, for sure.
Tonight, I noticed a blooper (in an actual episode as opposed to a reel) that I've not seen in almost forty years of viewing Trek. It occurred in Devil in the Dark. At the point where Spock first sees the Horta (Kirk is trying to talk to it), Kirk is urging Spock to come on over nearer to him. The camera shows Kirk face frontward, and he is holding a phaser in his right hand. The next shot shows both Kirk (from behind) and Spock, somewhat farther away as he is beginning his approach toward Kirk. In this clip, Kirk is holding not a phaser, but a communicator, and it is in his left hand. The very next clip goes back to the original frame, showing Kirk with a phaser in his right hand again. This wonderful blooper reminded me very much of Gav's sleight-of-hand while drinking in Journey to Babel. While I think the latter is intentional, I am not at all convinced that the former was done on purpose. There is also a mistake that I've mentioned on a couple of occasions at the beginning of Devil in the Dark (this is the thousands vs. millions statement), but I think that's an oversight as opposed to a blooper, somewhat similar to Spock's 'relevant' vs. 'relative' remarks in Tomorrow Is Yesterday. Swidden, Fesarius may have a bone to pick with you. I read on another thread where my favorite CIA operative does not care that much for Miri. "There's going to be hell to pay." Fesarius will want a full report on his desk in the morning. Thank you.
