I'm splurging ... last month I booked a quick flight to Las Vegas for tomorrow, just for the day. I'm going to go play all day at the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton. I figured if the rumors may be true about the Hilton's new owners possibly shutting down the attraction after the end of this year, I'd better go see the Borg 4-D ride before it's gone for good. I'll let you all know how it was.

Tribblemom, I was there in August and and loved it. The Borg Ride is different from the Klingon Experice, but still cool. Enjoy!

Have a great time TribbleMom! I am going to be really upset if the Hilton closes the experience. Every Trekkie should see it. Maybe it would be better suited to NYC or SF. Drink a Romulan ale for me! :wave2:

Saaaay.... that reminds me, Sam.

You should post that pic of you on the bridge of the Enterprise D. Was that from the same place that TribbleMom is going to?

I'm back, and had a great time. The day was too short!

I asked the bartenders there about the rumors of closure and they all shrugged and said that they had heard similar rumors numerous times before, so they'll believe it only when there's a lock on the door that they can no longer get into. One gal (dressed very much like Leeta) said that the change of ownership was simply a change from Paramount Parks to the company that owns the rest of the Hilton (they had operated as completely separate entities before). She had heard nothing from them about changing the attraction.

Dr. Noah, the Romulan Ale is a wonderful complement to the hamBORGer in the restaurant. I had 2 ales (one for you and one for me); they were so good and such a lovely shade of blue.

In a place like that, I was bound to meet some nice folks with similar interests ... 2 fellows from Cleveland who were in Vegas with their buddies for a week (none of the others were Trek fans), and a couple of women from Virginia using up their frequent flier miles before the end of the year, one of whom had never seen a Star Trek episode in her life ( :thud: ) but who was sure enjoying the unique drinks at the bar. Some of them said the same things I did ... that they didn't come to Vegas to gamble, either; they just wanted to play at the Star Trek Experience. A couple from Los Angeles said that they came there every year for a 4-day weekend over Thanksgiving and just spend most of their time hanging out in Quark's, as they also enjoy visiting with other like-minded people. The attraction has hired actors who stay in character while they mingle with the visitors to enhance the experience, so I talked to a female Klingon (Major Kahlen) , a Borg drone (Three of Six), and a Ferengi (Liquidator Quan). There are several TV screens located throughout the bar so that you can just sit and watch an episode if you're tired (different screens, different series). I always marvel at the ages of Trek fans that I see at places like this and at conventions. I saw small children, grey-haired grandparents with canes, and everything in between.

The simulator rides were fun. I had been on the Klingon adventure a couple of times before, so I only did it once. The Borg adventure was new for me, so I rode it twice. Both feature storylines that require live actors to interact with filmed Star Trek stars on a viewscreen, so the live actors have to have their timing in sync with the "movie." Both adventures end with a shuttlecraft simulator ride; the Klingon adventure throws you around like a fast-moving roller coaster would, and in the Borg one you wear 3-D glasses so everything on the viewscreen looks like it's coming right in your face. I actually ducked a couple of times before the Voyager crew came to rescue us from assimilation by the Borg. The museum-style displays are a real treat(included in the admission). The ship models hanging from the ceiling can be seen from pretty much anywhere in the area.

I've posted some pics into the Photobucket website. Here are the links:

For any of you who can, this is a great place for a Trekkie to go play.

Great photos TribbleMom! Looks like a fantastic time. Wish I could've been there to enjoy that Romulan ale with you. Thanks for thinking of me.

BTW: I'm thinking next summer I'll come back to visit the states, and may stop off in Vegas for a SisterTrek meet up. Let me know if you're game.
