Well, folks, today is the schedule release day for the final series in Star Trek's history. It's the long awaited arrival of The Animated Series DVD collection featuring all the voices of the original cast, expect Chekov. In fact I'll be picking up my set later today. :D I'm looking forward to DC Fontanna's comments regarding this series and how it came to become Star Trek's unofficial fourth season and how the stories are much closer to GR's original concept for Star Trek.

Are you going to get it?

Are you kidding me? That's like asking if Fire, Minuet, and I are related on a cosmic level or not. Yes, I am definitely going to be getting TAS on DVD.

Eventually.

Since my niece has been so interested in these, her dad (my brother-in-law) is considering getting them for her for Christmas.

On a related front, if you pop over to ST.com anytime soon, there was an interview with George Takei and TAS was discussed. In it he suggested that a way to pick up the TOS franchise again would be to do something animated (suggesting that sound alikes be brought in for Scotty and McCoy). Apparently it is something he would consider doing if asked.

If they used the latest in CG animation, I think it could fly. I for one, would love to see it.

[Fesarius considers visiting California this Christmas. He may need to do this in order to intercept Swidden in his bid to exchange his present for his niece's present when she isn't looking. Won't she be surprised when she opens up a can of shaving cream instead.]

Since I've already got the Animated Series on VHS, and still have a VHS player to play them on, I may hold off on the DVD's of this series.

For those of you who have purchased the DVD's, please let me know if you think there are enough advantages to the DVD set to warrant the purchase price. Now that overtime at work has ended, I'm a bit more conscious of my budget again. It's a bit difficult for me to justify such a purchase if the DVDs don't offer a lot more than the VHS tapes. Thanks.

Frugal, and logical. I hope to have mine before the New Year. I'll see how it goes. :)

Yeah, I would have made a semi-decent Vulcan. Keep me updated when you get yours.

Tribblemom, I picked mine up Tuesday afternoon for $36US. I didn't think it was too much to spend. The DVDs came nicely packaged in a white fold out case. The quality of the picture and sound are great. There are some special features, but I haven't had a chance to watch them. Since you have them on VHS, I would not be in a rush to pick them up. Six months or a year from near, they may be 19.99US.

I really hate to buy this set and then figure I don't like it. I want to see it though because it's the only Trek I haven't seen, but should I buy it? Hard to say.

Gdog,

These are not 'kiddie' shows by any means. They are very intelligently written. I will definitely be purchasing a set as soon as I can.

I understand they might be intelligently written, but is it worth spending 40 bucks as a "blind buy" though?
