I started Watching Season 4; Arik Soong Trilogy

So, with the new syndication schedule and the fact that I havn't seen all of season 4 yet, I watched the entire Arik Soong/Augment Trilogy last night. Instead of posting reviews for every episode, or bumping the official review threads up, I decided to watch the entire arc, or several episodes at a time and then post some thoughts about them afterwards. I've seen some of season 4, but I really have been looking foward to these arcs, like this last one, the Vulcan arc which is coming up, the Andorian arc, and the fanwank...ah I mean explination on the klingon ridges. With this schedule, I will miss some episodes but I plan to get them on DVD.

Borderland: I actually thought this episode was the weakest of the Soong trilogy. While it was an interesting set up, it just felt like a prolouge with an unnessesary fanwank to Orion Slave Labor. I was more interested in Arik Soong than pretty much every thing else, including the whole thing on the Klingon Ship. Still, as set ups go, this episode wasn't bad. I did enjoy the scenes with Archer trying to chase down Soong at the end, and the arguments that explore genetic engineering. Overall, what I really loved about this trilogy was that it felt like a prequal to Space Seed and Wrath of Kahn. This is the type of stuff I really looked foward to when I first watched Enterprise. Pity we didn't get it in season 1. Ah well it was still a good season.

Cold Station 12: We go from the weakest of the trilogy to the strongest and IMO, since I've only seen like 8 episodes of the season, the best episode of season 4 so far. This focused on the Augments so much and mixed in some great character drama with action and adventure. I really started to love Dr. Soong (And his great "Acutally mother was a Chemist") in this episode. He wasn't a madman, but a 3 demintional human being who was kind of obsessed with what he believed. It was complex and something I really loved about him. It was cool to see Dr. Lucus finally, especially after watching Dear Doctor a maybe 2 months ago. Also, the scene where Lucas had to watch a guy being tortured and not break was one of the best scenes I think I have ever seen in this show. There was so much drama there that I was surprised I was watching Enterprise.

The Augments: This episode was just there. It was exciting, with some cool scenes, but it was mostly average. Mallick was kind of stupid and his plan was crazy, and I do wish they had focused more on the Augments themselves (All of them) instead of Mallick, who wasn't really all that fascinating in the first place. Still though, not a bad conclusion, but I wish there would have been a bit more. I loved exploring the concept of Genetic Engineering and the Eugenics Wars in the previous episodes, but it was kind of lacking here.

I can't wait till "The Forge" (Welcome to Vulcan: A Planet as strange as thier people :loling: - quote from the preview from this weeks episode) and the rest of the vulcan trilogy.

The Augements themselves annoy me, casted from B grade actors, especially Mallick

I noticed the same thing. They were not as good as Kahn's associates.

It's perhaps not surprising that I liked the triology. I do wish Persis had not died. I thought that was unnecessary. But I thought Spiner's acting was better here than it was in his non-Data parts on TNG.

Cool Vulcan

What I note, with these episodes. Brent still has Data when it comes to Star Trek. I think it was Cold Ststion 12, but Brent's way of talking and moving his head is more like a well known, loved Android of a famus starship.

Yeah, he was good in that one. His 'evilness' is there, but not to the same degree, I don't think, as when he was Lore.

I don't know. I still think he can't outdo his three character bit in "Brothers."

Gdog,

You would pick the one where he was superb. ;)

BTW, I watched Dear Doctor tonight (Season One). Such a superb episode for many reasons. It's one of the first 'prime directive' episodes, has some great languages spoken (both with the Mink/Valacians and with Hoshi learning Denobulan), and it presented Phlox with a huge dilemma. This is IMO a first-rate episode.

Teek Teek. ;)

Apparently we look like this now
Curses to the bastards that cancelled Enterprise. It would have become the best Trek series of all time if they had kept the direction started in season 4. :banghead: :thud:

Hey, it was the first one to come to my mind. In picking an episode that wasn't so good (or turned out not be as good in part 2), I liked Dr. Soong in Birthright I, and the incredible dream sequence. It wasn't long, but it's one of my favorite moments ever.

No, that will be coming up in a few weeks I think. The Forge is next, which I'm really looking foward to.

You'll like The Forge Trilogy very ds9ish

But when you get to babel one.

Set aside the whole night, no distractions, mega size popcorn, pot of tea and make sure you watch Babel One, United and The Aenar all in a row, and get set to experience the best ENT has to offer
