Well, yeah, but he still looked very childish at times.

He dies all the time?

Even in desperate housewives?

His doctor had a crush on his wife and made an "error" on a prescription.......

Did he have a first name?

Perhaps this will be another one of Trek's greatest secrets ........

He was a good adversary to Reed, but he was also an insubordinate jackass. You don't talk to superiors that way, and yes, Reed was the guy's superior. It was a shame that like Degra, he died when he was starting to gain a bit more credibility.

Gdog,

But some of those traits were (IMO) what made the relationship work. Question: Do you really think he was insubordinate? He maintained he was not in the later episodes, and even went so far as to say that he was just doing his job.

Getting into verbal fights with a superior officer, refusing to follow orders and all that, yes I do think he was insubordinate at least at the beginning. He shaped up later on though.

It may still be a tough call, since MACOs were not Starfleet Officers. But I do see your point.

I would STILL argue he wasn't reeds subordinate. Major=Lt. Commander, making him one peg higher. Then again, he called Hoshi 'Ma'am'....And then there were times that Archer left him in command.

Plot holes in Enterprise? Who'd have thought.

On a sidenote, Culp's characters in JAG and Enterprise were both killed off, and the episodes in which they died aired on the same night in the US. Poor bloke can't take a trick!

Lt. Reed would have been Major Hayes superior, since he was one of the senior officers on the ship Hayes was posted to.

Major Hayes was serving on a Starfleet ship, not a member of Starfleet so on that ship, Reed outranked him.

When was Hayes left in command?

Timbo,

I agree with you in principle, but I do believe that Reed was his superior officer on the ship. The writers certainly made that clear, whatever their reasons.

FUM Bubba,

He was in command in the episode where T'Pol and other senior officers were thrown in the Brig, and Archer was not himself. It may have been Hatchery. In any event, once the officers had gotten themselves out of the Brig, they had to plan to commandeer the Bridge (from Hayes), which they eventually did.

Ah, yes. but Archer was mad in Hatchery, so it dosen't count.
