The Iraq War; Is it worth it?

I think the terrorists of Radical Islam know they cannot defeat the US military on the battlefield. They do know that the US public does not have the desire for a long fight especially if Americans are killed. It was seen in Vietnam, in Lebanon, in Mogadishu, in the first Iraq War, and perhaps other places. Their war must therefore be psychological. They think Americans are cowards and do not have the fortitude for war any longer. Their goal must be to weaken the will of America. They must divide the country. They must turn the country against its President. They must strengthen the anti-war movement.

Are they winning this psychological side of the war?

I think the ones fighting US troops in Iraq should be called guerilla's instead of terrorists.

I voted no as well. I don't think anyone could survive for long against US forces in conventional battle. Vietnam is a good example of the power of public opinion in helping to bring about a change in US policy, but I don't think your other examples are very good analogies, as other factors were more important, especially as regards the level of US involvement in the first place. I agree with you that they are attempting to influence public opinion here in the US. Since they can't coerce our withdrawal militarily by force-of-arms, influencing public opinion would be a logical alternative strategy. Despite our administration's rhetoric, I don't believe that they are fighting to wipe out our way of life. They have repeatedly and consistantly stated their political objectives, and not once have I heard a single one of them include creating an Islamic state here in the US.

Are they "winning" the battle for public opinion here? Not as much as the administration is "losing" the battle with poorly rationalized plans and policies for our involvement. If we saw actual progress being made, and a long term potential for victory, I think we would support our involvement indefinately.

Time to put something here
 I messed up the poll, I answered the question "The Iraq War, Is it worth it?" and not "Should the US Cut & Run?".

I think the Iraq war is worth it so I voted Yes, and so I would have voted No to "Should the US Cut & Run?". Even if I didn’t think Iraq was worth it I would vote No for leaving now as that would be the worst mistake now. Sorry for messing up the poll.

Many of their clerics have stated that their goal is world domination. Either convert and comply or die. Sounds like you have not heard their clerics speak on the news.

I watch a lot of news and no, I don't recall having heard any Muslim clerics calling for world domination. "Many" does not mean a majority or that a consensus has been attained. There probably are some radicals who advocate such, just as there are Christian clergy anxious and willing to provoke Armegeddon. Al qaeda, on the other hand, is quite clear on their more limited objectives. Extremists exist on both sides of the debate and, IMO, are equally irrational and misguided.

Yes.

Being there is only making things worse for the Iraqis.

So what if Iraq breaks up and the puppet government collapses - if that is what the Iraqis want.

No, we should not “Cut & Run.” We are there, we made a commitment to the people of Iraq, and we better see it through.
