You seem confused about that war.

We didn't try to invade you - it was the other way around. We won because we aren't part of the US.

:P (yes, I am sticking my tongue out at you)

Well you guys wasn't really you guys, you were the subjects of the King of England. And we didn't start it by invading you, the British Navy was throwing its weight around capturing our ships and enslaving our sailors. We invaded Canada as a response to that, but the leaders at the time failed to back it up with enough support it. The British then came in and burned DC to ground. At this point, G_d obviously got very angry at the British for terrorizing his beloved land of the free and whipped up a hurricane to punish them while we fortified Baltimore and held them off. During the ensueing battle, a lucky shot then killed the British commander (providence again) and the British sort of collapsed and fell back. Oh and then we kicked there butts in New O.

But, this was all even bigger than the Hans Island Crisis. Imagine, the most powerful Navy on earth (us now), capturing Canadian ships and impressing their sailors to help us.

Noah, I'm curious - what restaurant did they consider "the best". There are many good ones.

Who - Generally there is no major animosity that I can see. In fact I am going down to the States in a couple of weeks. (Walt Disney World here we come!)
However, I have seen the animosity growing and I think that a large part of it is the conservatism of the US as compared to the liberal attitude in Canada. We just think differently and at times Canadians get a bit overwhelmed because we share this continent with you, but the US is so much larger then Canada.

I think that people here would also like it if "free trade" really meant "free trade". Goodwill is not bought when some sectors in the US try to block Canadian goods (Beef and lumber come to mind)

There was one Chinese resturant that I really liked. I forget the name, perhaps had "Pearl" in it, maybe "Pink Pearl"? They had one appetiser called something like "Rainbow Chopped in Crystal Fold". It was like a Chinese taco folded in lettace. Also had Hoy Sing (?sp) sauce. It was soooo... good.

I can see the liberal-conservative aspect now as the US is almost at war with itself over this. I was surprised that Canada adopted homosexual marriage.

I suppose it might be a little frightening living next to a superpower but at least from my perspective I do not think Canadians know how fond Americans are of Canadians.

I do not know anything of the current trade problems between the US and Canada. It probably comes from the problem the US has with its huge loss of manufacturing and the huge trade imbalance. One of the problems that the US is facing is that much of the US's exports now are IP and people for some reason do not see stealing IP the same as stealing other property. These are things like software, music, video, etc. This is really big in Asia.

There seems to be an endless supply of problems. Perhaps better to focus on common ground when problems are discussed.

Toronto has the 3rd largest oriental population in North America - right after San Francisco and New York. There are many many good Chinese restaurants.

I actually don't venture downtown to Chinatown these days. It used to be an adventure when I was a child. But now there is a large oriental population in the northern suburbs and Chinese culture is everywhere. The two easiest cuisines to find in this city are Chinese and Italian. Hundreds of great restaurants serving both are easy to find.

Ah another reason New York is better then Toronto, not only can you get better pizza here, with those odds you probably get better oriental foods. Now where is that thread again.
