Administrative Response

Gvok I am going to tell you the same thing I told another poster a few days ago when they were hounding you for a response.

AB has answered in the manner that he chooses. If you don't like his answers then tough. Don't hound him for a response.

End Administrative Response

US policy toward the UN has changed since the Clinton Administration.

In addition, the scandals such as Oil-for-Food and raping 12-year old girls in Rwanda were not known.

He is the president's pick. I like him (Bolton). How about making a case as to why someone else should get the job, and what they should do.

Well, obviously our policy has changed, new administration, new issues. Happens regularly. That's why we have an ambassador - to inform the UN of our positions (at the highest diplomatic levels).

Why do you like him? His kick-ass take no prisoners demeanor?

I don't have any preference for who inhabits the post, but I do think it shoud be filled. That's why I have never entered the debate previously here. I do think we should take a stern position about accountability of funds and I'm not sure we have much credibility to preach about the moral high ground in general right now in the global community, but we should do what we can to promote more ethical behavior by the UN's members. (But that's a given, isn't it?) Overall I think the UN is on the verge of obselescence anyways, and is fundamentally flawed. I do think that if the UN truly works against our interests then we should simply reduce our contribution as appropriate. It would be irrational to do otherwise. I don't think that we have any right to expect them to do what we want just because we are paying for it. That's just bribery on an international scale.

Have light saber. Will travel.
I think this topic does not make much sense. Who has not made a mistake in filling out some long form? I suspect that someone may have filled it out for him.

I do not think that the ambassador to the UN is going to cause much change at that dysfunctional body. As an taxpayer, I do not like to see my taxes go to an anti-US organization. I think the US should withold funding from the UN until it undergoes fundamental change. If the UN ends then so be it.
